2 Dead In Car Chase.

I just wanted to say, that the car chase leading to two youths dead could not have been the policemens fault.

What are they meant to do, stolen car and all. what let them go???

Of course this is a tragedy but really these little crims stole a car and now there are riots because these little delinquents ran from the cops crashing moments later. killing the two not driving.

If anyone should be getting death threats it should be the fool that was driving.

NSW police today said four of its officers had received death threats after two teenagers were killed in a police pursuit.

Dyllan Rayward, 17, and 19-year-old Matthew Robertson were killed when the stolen car they were travelling in hit a tree during a police chase in Sydney's south-west on Friday night.

The driver, who police say is known to them, fled the crash on Eucalyptus Drive, Macquarie Fields, and has not been found.

The suburb was rocked by large-scale riots over the past three nights, involving youths throwing rocks and molotov cocktails at police in riot gear.

Three officers and several rioters were injured during last night's clash between 100 police and 150 residents.

Superintendent John Sweeney today acknowledged reports some youths wanted to kill four police officers in retribution.

"That's their perception and we have noted it, but we're still maintaining the professional stance and going forward," Supt Sweeney told the Nine Network.

AdvertisementHe maintained initial reports that police followed pursuit protocol and said the chase lasted less than a minute.

Reports police had shunted the car were "offensive", he said.

"There is not one scratch on the police car," Supt Sweeney said.

"To shunt a vehicle at speed it would have to show some clear evidence of damage."

He also rejected suggestions police broke up a peaceful vigil by young people wanting to mourn the death of their friends.

"That's nonsense. We moved up around a street - it was well and truly away from the site of the incident - and they were the ones that engaged police as we came into the area," Supt Sweeney said.

Supt Sweeney said the rioters misunderstood what happened during the incident.

"They've got their perceptions and think they're putting a spin on it to detract us from our investigation," he said.

Supt Sweeney said some members of the local community were trying to hide the driver, who he described as "un-Australian" for fleeing the scene.

I’m not familiar with that suburb but from what I’ve seen on TV they look and act very uneducated. Is unemployment high there?

From the vision and interviews shown it would seem that they think that it’s quite Ok to steel others property and just another every day normal thing to do and as such the cops should leave them alone????????

The mentality and total disregard for law and order of these people is questionable and I have no doubt they have no idea how much it cost and how much hard work the honest person has to put in to buy a decent family car.

Take something from these people and see how they react!!!!!!! If you can find anything of any value that is….

In the old days it was a hanging offence to steal a bloody Horse... nowadays you steal a car and its not even a jail term for fark sake...

I don’t think the police have a choice and in fact have an obligation to the general public to uphold the law and chasing common thief’s who steel cars is part of their job and should be continued to be or the whole system will turn Turtle.

Another problem here is they “Bait” the Police cars so as to get chased for the adrenalin rush!!! Not only putting their own lives at risk but the Police and general Public.

The problem in this instance is the people concerned have no respect for the law and this can be seen by the violent demonstrations that have been shown on TV. They blame the police for the deaths when they stole the car??? Huh???

I do blame the parents to some degree but as we all have free education in Australia there is no excuse for any individual not to pursue a decent well paid job and as such enjoy a decent future for themselves and their families. Oh and to be able to buy their own car instead of stealing others.

These idiots who steal cars, then try to evade the cops deserve anything they get.

While the tragic loss of life will affect their families for many years to come, this at the end of the day is of their own violition.

Just hope some of the other young'uns can learn from the tradegy. (Although we all know we are immortal at 17)

The fact that the police are somehow to 'blame' is an absolute farce.

People must take responsibility for their own actions.

Agreed! It is ridiculous that it has been allowed to escalate to this level, it seems to me, an indication of a large percentage of youth today and their total disregard for authority! I imagine that this would not happen in a lot of countries where there is more respect shown for authority and a much harder stance on these sort of issues. I think that many see the law as a toothless tiger and soft, unfortunatey not the fault of the police but the civil libetarians, so called do-gooders and law makers that promote a slap on the wrist as a better alternative than harsh penalties that will make some think twice about the consequences of their actions. I reckon send the police in with the most effective methods available to them to nip it in the bud short and sweet! and this may have been resolved in a matter of hours instead of days?

This incident makes me SICK.

If these youths are throwing molitove cocktails at the cops, they should be shot. If they riot they should be teargassed and hit with rubber bullets. It is partially the police's fault (or is it the governments) for being so soft on these criminals when they riot. Its just like the aborigionals last year in Redfern. The cops just stood back while they were being attacked. I do not know if it is the TV crews that make them soft, but I DEMAND even punnishment. If they throw rocks at the cops, hit back with rubber bullets and water cannons. If they throw petrol bombs at cops, they should be shot.

I have had enough of this left wing BS about not being hard on these little sh*ts.

What makes it worse is the people (parents??) were standing on their front lawns and clapping and cheering the little delinquents on. Just shows you why their kids are so bad, its the parents teaching them to be criminals and have no respect for anyone else.

I know this might sound VERY harsh.

But stealing a car, running at high speed from the cops and then crashing the car? YOU'RE JUST PROVING DARWIN!

I've done stuipid things when I was young too, and tried to avoid the cops (nope, didn't work) BUT on the other hand, there's avoiding cops and then theres putting X number of people (yourselves, anyone in the car etc) in danger as well...

Still, it is always said to see young people die, for such a stupid reason
