I hope you haven't succumbed to the 'I own an xr6t and they be teh fastest car on the planet syndrome'??

The earlier models came with a bigger turb - tdo5 I think.. and got down an boogied...

They weren't bfyb champ and so damn popular because they be a slow car..

don't buy into the auto v manual arguement... My personal belief that rolling start, you would peg an auto..

Bugger, I think I have succumbed to that syndrome. :spoton:

I beat one of those rexe's three times in a row on old windsor road when the guy finally said to me at the next set of lights 'ok, you win.' He apparantly had no mods, I only got 250rwkw but If my car was stock I reckon it might have been a different story. Don't worry Dave, knowing these T's, he could beat you today, you could beat him tomorrow.

Well guys, I don't know where this auto / manual thing came into it.

1) Manuals have 10-15KW More at the rear wheels than the Auto variety (I have dyno charts to match)

2) Auto will produce extra torque at the cost of RPM's, but is really only effective if you "Stall" the Auto.

3) The Autos are "Torque Taged"... The Autobox says "Hey, I need to change, but can only change at X Nm of torque"... The BA Computer drops the engine tune, timing etc to drop engine output below the X figure..

Auto's might give you as slicker change, but by the time the engine de-tunes and then comes back up to full juice, I think the manual change can't be far behind..

I spent a couple of years playing with the 4 speed electronic boxes... they are good, but not that good, not in a drivable configuration.

The manuals have "Torque Tags" also.

I've run a Ph2 manual ute here in Townsville. Him 250rwkw. Me 240rwkw.

We were at the local drags participating in the making of a performance video. They wanted us to 'keep it even' on the launch, which meant me having to wait for him.. I let him set the pace, and I just stayed with him off the line.

At the top end off the track, once we were both in 3rd, I was pulling on him easily.

I've played with a few modded manuals up here, both on the track and street. Rolling start or otherwise, NONE of them have kept with me. Not one.

Performance of the manuals is embarrasing. :gives:

Back on topic, a stock T against a modded, even slightly, WRX? Forget it.

Especially if you're in a manual :tosser:

Shoulda left your muffler off :ermm:

Dont be too upset that you didnt beat him, both of these cars have pretty much the same 1/4 mile time recorded in the major motoring mags, so it shows your pretty much on the pace, and you do have bugger all km's on the clock, run again when you have 20,000kms.

Dazza.

I'm not starting an XR6 v's WRX thing here but just reading through your comments about a stock T against a modded, even slightly, WRX ? well just as a comparision I raced at Calder late last year in a MY99 and with only 145kw ATW it was running consistent low 13's and the launches werent that good. Stock boost, but with unichip, 3" and front mount intercooler its' not what you would call highly modified and the front mount is their for reliability and no boost increase.

I'm sure BCL's rex would give quite a few of the 11 second T's talked about on this forum a run for their money. A stock rex and T have respectible performance and they both have good performance but they do it differently, and each to their own.

Yep, that was what I was saying. In a stock T, you're not going to trouble a well driven WRX. :w00t2:

yeah dont be too discouraged , I dont think any stock xrt would beat any stock rex if the rex owner knew how to drive ,

I owned a stock my98 and also rememebr the my97 actually didnt have the bigger turbo (that was my94-96, possible some earlier 97's might of but the true my97 was the same engine wise as the my98) and they were actually fast stovk over the earlier models and they had alot more torque..

any back to the point , I pulled a 13.7 in mine bog stock (allbeit a ruthless 5500rpm launch) so as many have said dont underrestimate them unless your running at least 250+rwkw's

We own both a 05 WRX and an 04 T, and I can assure you a standard WRX will not outaccelarate a standard T (fitone). However, it is possible to out drive the T...

I know you'll never catch me dumping the clutch in our MY05 at 6000rpm, and I can garentee you not many other owners will either.

I'll repost from another thread.

Many people talk about rexes as if they're all the same: there are broadly 4 different groups of rexes:

1. 96 and earlier: easy to mod; bigger turbo; modified with exhaust and boost they go very well

2 97-00 smaller 'old shape' and lighter; many of these on the road (98 version the fastest stock)

3. 01-02 bug eyed heavy slugs; no bragging rights if you beat a 01 (that has a poor gearing); if your stock can't beat a stock 01 hang your head in shame

4. 03-05 with variable valve timing, these will boost a lot quicker than the Ford T (I know because at one stage I had a stock MY03 and Ford T and drove them back to back all the time) 0-100k the rex marginally quicker; The rex also runs higher compression 9.0-1, making them feel more responsive.

The Ford has better mid-range and top end torque.

But there are now quite a few guys like myself that are running 2.5L Sti motors in rexes.

These are in a different league.
