I was following two mates to the pub and we had a run on a perfectly straight flat peice of road.

here's the specs:

MY97 WRX, aftermarket rear can, BOV, 17" rims and 150,000+km.

BA MkII turbo, 6-speed, bog stock (I put the centre muffler back) and 5200km.

the rex had 2 ppl in it, I was by myself.

traction off.

I got a pretty good launch, just enough wheel spin, the rex launched pretty well but judging by the revs, not very hard.

he jumps ahead till I was about level with his front door, but feck me, I could not get past him! we went all the way to till the very end of 3rd and I was only just creeping on him but still hadn't broken even!

I couldn't believe it, I was like "yep, any minute now I'm going to start pulling away", but nope it didn't happen...

Now I'm pretty sure it's not my driving, the melbourne boys can tell you my manual driving aren't too shabby, it's been dynoed and it's pretty healthy, so what the hell is wrong with it?!

Dave.

Dave, I think any Rex is a worthy challenger. Even the MY97's would be pulling low 14's stock so there shouldnt be much in it.

If it was auto you would have been much closer. It is difficult to launch these cars in a manual against AWD rally car. I have also found that shifting at 5000rpm keeps you on the torque curve, which makes you go faster than reving the :smilielol: out of it

If you were doing 10km/h you would have had the jump. Your car also has low km, it will free up as you put more, do not worry these are a quick car if driven right :spoton:

I hope you haven't succumbed to the 'I own an xr6t and they be teh fastest car on the planet syndrome'??

The earlier models came with a bigger turb - tdo5 I think.. and got down an boogied...

They weren't bfyb champ and so damn popular because they be a slow car..

don't buy into the auto v manual arguement... My personal belief that rolling start, you would peg an auto..

yeah don't worry I've never bought into the auto vs manual thing, I believe I would have no trouble pulling lengths on an auto in a rolling start...

I just didn't realise they were that fast...bloody stupid thing well I better get an edit....

Well guys, I don't know where this auto / manual thing came into it.

1) Manuals have 10-15KW More at the rear wheels than the Auto variety (I have dyno charts to match)

2) Auto will produce extra torque at the cost of RPM's, but is really only effective if you "Stall" the Auto.

3) The Autos are "Torque Taged"... The Autobox says "Hey, I need to change, but can only change at X Nm of torque"... The BA Computer drops the engine tune, timing etc to drop engine output below the X figure..

Auto's might give you as slicker change, but by the time the engine de-tunes and then comes back up to full juice, I think the manual change can't be far behind..

I spent a couple of years playing with the 4 speed electronic boxes... they are good, but not that good, not in a drivable configuration.
