I have the sockets in my car and it's a March build with premium sound. Just one question though... Are the new lights hooked up to the doors so that when the doors open the lights are on and when the doors close the lights go off, or is there extra fiddling involved?

StaggerLee,

Na mate. The foot well lights run of the interior light system. Unlock the door / open door / press button on dash and up they come..! Just stuff em in and away you go! :werd:

For the last 2 posts-

StaggerLee - The footwell lights work on the same circut as the door lights/access lights. So unlock the car get the footwell lights (as well as the others) and lock the car after 20 secs all the lights fade including the footwell. The install is as simple as plug in the bulbs...

richdave - Under the left of the glove box easy to find. The drivers side a little more difficult. Recomend a torch. Here is what I did. Remove the fuse panel cover (and I know you know where that is). The cover uses a hinge which has 3 prongs to the left and then a one to the rights (if I remember). Between the second and third hinges on the white plastic up behind the fuses. Look for the brown plug. It is behind and up but it's there..I can post a pic if you need one..

I found it easiest to remove the socket from the drivers side (very easy, just give it a quarter twist) and then insert the globe and put the whole lot back in.

The socket is best found by removibng the fuse cover and having a good look in the hinge area.

I agree with the assumption that the lamps are only in the cars fitted with premium sound, I think that Ford must install the Ghia wiring loom as part of the premium sound option (this may explain why premium sound is a factory option only).

I wonder what else is there waiting to be found?

Do the BA Ghia's have those little (red?) courtesy lights at the rear edges or bottom of the doors like I think I've seen on some of the high spec AU's?

If it is a Ghia loom and they do still have these lights, the connections should be there somewhere, even if the wires aren't in the door, at least a connector may be behind the dash?

I was just looking up the old press releases from the BA launch, and there was one that showed the vehicle specs with every model listed with 'same as model below plus...'

According to that list, trim spec differences between the XR range and the Fairmont/Ghia are as follows:

Footwell Illumination

Bootlid Carpet Covering :pinch:

Overhead Console (with sunglasses holder)

Dual Horns

Leather Park Brake Handle (Ghia only)

Illuminated Vanity Mirrors (in sunvisors?) (Ghia only)

Front Door Courtesy Lights (Ghia only)

Also the Illuminated Power Window switches aren't SUPPOSED to be on XR's

I'm off down to the local dealer this weekend to search for a Ghia to check for these things, but perhaps someone can supply part numbers and prices for these newer pieces?

I don't believe you can get the reversing sensors on XR's either ,but I cant see why it can't be fitted if you've got premium sound & you can cut neat holes in your bumper!!

u can get reverse sensors on anything, XT's, Futura, XR's as well. I think they are factory on ghia's. And it can be put in afterwards by any "competent" dealer. (is there such a thing!.....only kidding!)

Can someone tells us the colours of the wires going into the sockets. This way someone may be able to rig up something for us boring sound people.

I wanna order again.
