Does every T have a tranny (auto) cooler or was it only fiited with a tow pack?

P.S. I am interstate atm and don't have my car with me so I can't check.....

Mine is a 04/04 build and its above the intercooler.

Not real smart if its in front of the intercooler, as heat from it, will pass on to the intercooler.

Mine is in between the radiator and condenser :spoton:

No T's have a tranny cooler (tow pack or not,) other than the excuse for one they have running through the radiator, early T's ran one below the IC & another in front of the condenser, later models run only one in the top posy but twice the length of the early jobby.

The later one is available from Ford for about $150+, it can replace both the ones in an earlier model & leave ample room down under the IC for a Trans cooler. Hope this helps, I have done it to mine last week as have some others

Thanks Scotty,

It looks like an after market one is the way to go...

Just checked my May 04 T.... auto trans cooler is via the radiator (do you reckon that would heat it up or cool it down?? Anyone know the temp gradient differential from one to the other?), with power steering cooler in front of the radiator above the intercooler.

So - with the general concensus being a cooler is a must with anything that's even mildly warmed - what are the options? The guys I spoke to at Ford last week gave me the almost perfect blank look.... :ermm: ..... so after market? And who from?

Oil coolers are a tricky thing, you don't want the oil to be cooled to much to the point where the temp drops below normal operating temp.

If you allow the transmission oil to enter the external oil cooler before the inbuilt cooler in the radiator then the transmission oil should leave the radiator inbuilt cooler at normal operating temp.

By letting it enter the external cooler first also allows for heat to dissipate there for not heating up the radiator above normal temp.

OK - so Ken - you're saying that there IS an aftermarket solution that will slot in, supplied firstly from the lower line going to the radiator (from the trans...), then to that port through the radiator and return....?

I can't imagine a 4000lb car with as much torque & therefore as much friction as these machines have suffering from chill blanes to the auto just acuse one fitted an aftermarket cooler, unless you are planning a trip through Siberia

But you wouldn’t want to be ramming all that torque and friction through the slushy before it reaches normal operating temp would you? My understanding was that the radiator mounted “heat exchanger” (notice I didn’t say cooler) is more of an equalizer than anything – brings the tranny up to temp faster and then helps cool it down when the fun starts.

Have I got the tit by the bull?

And in just typing that I think I’ve got new names for Scotty and Ian; Torque & Friction!

Not Trent.
