For those looking at an easy way to create the new pin....I was looked for something to use without a lot of cutting and shaping and found that a simple brass split pin cut to length and bent works great....various sizes available from your nearest hardware store.

Did the 3 single switches tonight and they worked great.

Need a few more LEDS before I tackle the drivers door one.

All you LED experts....

Is it possible to just swap the red LED from an aftermarket car alarm for a blue one? Is the current too high at all??

Or can I just swap one straight in?

Keen to have a matching blue LED for the alarm warning light.

TIA for any assistance.

Most LED's draw around 20-30ma, it should be safe to swap straight over. The blue ones I used in the switches were 20mA at 3.5V, if that helps. You could always check the voltage with a digital meter to be safe. You may want to include a resistor anyway, as the blues one are quite bright.

There have not been any posts covering the use of SMD (Surface Mount Device) components.

So here is one.

What I have done is similar to everybody else except I used SMD blue LEDs and SMD resistors.

This first picture shows the disassembled switch with the SMD tweesers and SMD devices to the side.
