Guest KarlDurrance Guests Posted 01/06/03 10:56 PM Share Posted 01/06/03 10:56 PM Hi all,Well I had a go at installing the LEDs in the switches on the w.e, all the passenger doors were easy and they work as expected.. BUT the drivers door has got me puzzled.. when I plug it it all the LEDs flash breifly (so I know all the LEDs are working), I then turn on the headlights which activates all the other switches, the drivers door brightens up breifly (about 1 second) then turns off, never to be on again..I followed the premium sound instructions word for word and am not sure what is going on..Anyone have any ideas ?? BTW I used SMD components..BTW, for the red cutoff switch is there a SMD pad for that LED ? its not in the instructions..Karl

And the only time mine go out is on one of the dash brightness levels. Let us know how you go and or post a pic.

And no theres no pad for the cut off. The factory cut off doesn't light up NT was being clever LOL. If they are lighting up briefly and going out sounds abit wierd but to check for backwards LEDS open the switch and plug it in. Short each individual LED out and see what happens. If the rest light up with one shorted out that is the LED which is wrong. Also if the Pin had a dry joint this can happen. Remember one of the LEDs is backwards I think it was the bootom drivers one. But if you followed word for word it should be correct. Hope this helps, any probs just yell. Also make sure there is still a neg at the pin when they go out. If its the BEM playing up it could waste you alot of time.

Guest KarlDurrance Guests Posted 02/06/03 01:34 AM Share Posted 02/06/03 01:34 AM Ok, so far I have not been testing it out of the car, I've done the work and plugged it in (and I guess haev been lucky until now).. What is the voltage to the board (I don't have a multimeter) can I just use a 9v batt and plug touch the wires to the + and - pins, I know if the voltage from the car is higher it would be a little dull, but at least it will prove the LEDs are getting power properly??Richdave, mine only light up when the headlights are turned on.. not like others which from what I have read also turn on when the interior lights are on ??Sorry for my ignorance, but I don't have very much experience with electronics.. BTW for those who are going to attempt this with SMD components there is a SMD training kit from Jaycar that I bought for practise before hand.. helped me out heaps.. If you leave your fog light switch on with the lights off it also illuminates. It goes off with the interior lights etc and when you lock the car. Posted 02/06/03 02:22 AM Share Posted 02/06/03 02:22 AM Got mine all sorted now. The problem was my lack of experience with soldiering, I heated the LED's up to much when conecting the resistor to them. Its all fixed now and they all work great. The window lights only come on when I turn my lights on.
