Yeah, I think at the beginning of this whole blue switch saga someone mentioned being quoted $1800 for some module? and thought they were being ripped off, maybe that's the case for non premium sound, Damn sure fairmont w/switches wont go in mine tharts frr shore!

Well since I have only done my own I have no idea. I think it cost me around $65 to do mine. But if you want it done I'm sure we could come to some arrangement. I'm more than happy to help out a fellow Kiwi and an XR6T owner to boot, let me know when your down next.

Dave.

If mine could swim, I'd come too. Hmmm, I'll have to find an enterprising person in Perth to do them.

Hope I'm not throwing a spanner in the works boys but when my window switch failed I convinced the dealer to replace it with a Fairmont one - it works fine and I HAVE NOT got 'premium' sound.

Unfortunately the colour is white although it matches the display on the std sound head unit. Does the Fairmont switch have these surface mount device LEDs? (I'm not familiar with any of this stuff - I can install car stereos but that's it). I was hoping they just have 'globe' type LEDs as most of you guys have used so that I could paint the globes blue. I'm guessing you can't do this with the SMD LEDs?

The design of the PCB is very defiantly for SMD devices. This would certainly be the case for the Fairmont switch. (I think the only difference between the Fairmont switch and the Turbo, Premium sound switch is the absence of the SMD resistor, SMD LEDs and the power pin.)

As for colouring the LEDs blue - any technique that you were planning on using with a standard LED should work on an SMD LED - they are basically the same (the SMD is just much much smaller).

If you considered the SMD LED from side on you have a physical layer, the substrate and a clear plastic dome - almost the same as a standard LED.

Something else:

Blus SMD LEDs are very expensive and not overly bright (although they are purfect for this application) and white SMD LEDs are MUCH cheaper and are brighter also.

A good alternative may be to use white LEDs and colour them using the previously alluded to technique to make them shine blue!

If this works then it would provide a much cheaper way for people to install blue illuminated windows switches!
