Plus I would want money first up since its a bit hard to chase across the tasman.
Guest potai Guests Posted 04/06/03 08:38 AM Share Posted 04/06/03 08:38 AM Karl,Your problem sounds like the classic "LEDS around the wrong way syndrome". I made the mistake early on of measuring voltages to ground. I then thought it was the BEM because the symptoms were so weird. Last weekend I finally replaced the all the LEDs with SMD's and checked each switch on the bench with a battery charger as a power source as I went and hey presto all fine now. The Jaycar SMD's have a"<" (triangle) to mark the pins and all should go this way around (like a less than sign) when looking at the top (contact side) of the circuit board (I.e not from the pin side), except the one LED on the drivers switch. If checking the LEDs with a multimeter be aware that most analog meters output +ve on the black wire and -ve on the red (a trap for old and young).Failing that check that you hav'nt bridged a track, some of those are very close to the resistors...Best of luck. Guest KarlDurrance Guests Posted 04/06/03 10:40 PM Share Posted 04/06/03 10:40 PM Potai,Yep, your correct.. I switched the LEDs around the other way on the drivers door and worked a charm.. what resistor values have people used ? I've used the SMD 47R as was suggested in this thread and it still is a 'little' bright with some light coming thru the cracks of the switches.. has anyone used a higher resistor value ? what were the results like ? I think I ended up using around 630 ohms in the end. Only get a fraction of light between the cracks. I think if you want really dull light go for around 800 ohms resistance. If not just be lazy and dimm it via the dash light dimmer switch :D

I also dont have the full wiring diagrams but the ones I do have seem to indicate only small changes to wiring between ute and car. Mainly position changes etc. If your dealer is good get them to try a fairmont switch from one of there lot cars and see if it works. If not pull out your switch and look for a blue with red striped wire in the center of the plug. It is slightly thinner than the rest and if its there bingo it will work.
