Thanks guys for the excellent write ups.

It's all a lot clearer now.

Mine appears to be the same as yours K1W1 (Fairmont Style).

A couple of questions before I do it if that's OK?:

- What did you use for the extra pin (resistor leg maybe)?

- Did you use standard 3mm LEDs?

- Did you drill holes for the components (LEDs and resistor) legs or did you surface mount them?

- I see you used a 680 ohm resisitor, did you experiment with the value a bit?

I did the maths using a 3.5V drop for each LED and a circuit current of 20 mA and came up with about 250 ohms for the dropping resistor, using the info supplied by you guys I can assume this would be far too bright!?

Thanks again for both write ups NT TURBO and XR6TK1W1 and I look forward to your write up of the driver's switch unit XR6TK1W1.

For the extra pin I used some thin Aluminium that I just cut to size. To match the other pins. A resistor leg would be to weak.

And yes I used 3mm LEDs.

And I just surface mounted both LEDs and resistors.

And for the resistance I just tried both, I think I started with a 330 ohm but theres little differance betweem them as the LED has a working voltage of 3.5 to 4 volts.

Hope this help Xr6na

Ok heres an attempt to write one up for the drivers side, I hope you can understand it. Just follow the description word for word and you should be able to see where things go. If not you should be able to trace the paths with a good multi meter. Good luck guys, as the pic is poor and the writtings not much better.

XR6TK1W1,

You completely under rate yourself. Great job. I'm in the process of duplicating your effort, for the standoff (missing switch pin) I fabricated one from a standard brass picture hook, as I figured the originals are probably nickel coated brass.

Attached is a photo of the passenger side front switch exploded and my fabricated pin.

The voltage I got across the new pin (anode) and Red/black stripe wire was 3.16v and I don't seem to have any problem with the fog lights (only one done at this stage).

Yaaa another Kiwi. Now theres 3. Nice job with the picture hook!!! I actually used some brushed aluminium that had a stainless coating on it that was made as a surround for tiles ( left over from the bathroom mods ) And as for the fog lights that prob cleared itself. I have since found that the BEM is crook and that caused my initial probs. Had the car in today at the dealer for a BEM upgrade ( prgramming ) and it sh*t itself and now no car until monday. And for the LEDs they are the same as I used!! so should be no probs there. Good luck withe the upgrade mate! hope all goes well. :D

XR6K1W1,

Have some real funny stuff happening with the Pwr Window switch lights. Have only done the three singles so far and used a single LED rather than the two. If I turn the lights on park they glow nicely. If I start up they turn off, never to return until the car has been off for a while. If I use the top left pin (the one above the new pin) rather than the common all works fine but of course the rear ones (LEDS) don't got off when the disable switch is turned on.

Think I will now go hunting for some real surface mount components. I wonder if its because I've supposedly got new firmware in the BEM?

Mate sounds FUBAR! I hope when I finally get the updated S/W mine doesn't play up. Doesn't sound right to me, and yes I think its the BEM playing up. My dealer got my car going on the old S/W and they are downloading the lastest again, and will call me when they have tried the update on there demo. Shame your flying down or you could have brought the car down and compared work. Good luck. And yes surface mount the gear, it leaves more room for those pesky contact and stuff.
