NT, I'd be interested to see a pic of yours if possible. Just wondering if its only the polarity that is differant. I still have to laugh though, You can't buy a XR6T in NZ without premium sound, its standard. About time we get the better of the Aussies LOL. Our GT's come out with better specs to. Not alot more but more. And how did you go with the leaky capacitor?

XR6turbo, I just use a 80watt standard iron. Just watch the heat. you can see the legs of the LED's heat up as you do it. Just lay the soldier first and heat the leg as it goes into the soldier. Try to do it in one go to stop the risk of a dry joint.

I'm still working on the drivers door, but here's a picie of the passengers side, if that's of any help :D Also my soldering iron which is only 25W doesn't have a variable heat range switch either and with the non premium sound the spare pin feeder is positive. Good luck :D hang in there you'll get it!!

P.S. Tinker at your own risk!!

A 20W soldering iron is recommended for surface mount devices.

The procedure should be

1) Tin one end of the device applying heat for shortest time possible

2) Wait 30 seconds for device to cool

3) Tine other end of device

4) wait 30 seconds for cooling

5) Place device in place on PCB (on top of pads)

6) Apply iron for short time to cause solder on device and PCB to melt together

7) Wait 30 seconds for cooling

7) do step 6 for other side of device

If using standard devices then a 40W (or more if carefull) iron will be fine and the need to be ultra carefull of heat is far less of a problem.

You guys amaze me. I respect your abilities totally. When someone in WA gets this sorted out, I'll happily pay you to do it to mine, with a profit thrown in. I am going to miss the illuminated switches in my AUII XR (what were Ford thinking?)
