The police once said I was going to loose my licence for doing a small wheel spin (2 seconds). They said they will summon me to court. They intimidated me in an over the top way. They intimidated my girlfreind more than me, interogated her and made her cry.

In the end they droped everything and didnt even bother with court...

Some hope. Take it to court! With all members have said you should get the 140 penalty

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

A 'small wheelspin for 2 seconds', you were intimidated by the Police and your girlfriend cried. They dropped everything and didn't even bother with Court.

So what happened........did you get an infringement notice? Did you get a summons for Court or did they just give you a gobful to make sure you realised that what you did was pretty stupid on a public road and they let you go.

If that's the case I think you got off lightly......in fact I think you should be grateful you only got a gobful and had no monetary or license penalty imposed. At the end of the day isn't this the sort of action most people would prefer?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I never heard from them again. For a start they had no right to intimidate my gf and ask her personal thing unrelated to the incident. I was a P plater in a auto VN at the time :pinch:

The officer also gave a false speach to me saying I would loose my licence and get a fine, when he didnt know that, because it is up to the courts.

He didnt tell me what offence I was commiting I asumme he could have only got me for the unneded smoke and/or noise.

It wasnt around a corner or it wasnt a line locky. There was no smoke at all. All I did was plant it as I took off in a straight line and the tyres lost traction and spun for 1 or 2 seconds.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Maybe you had no right to spin the wheels in the area where you did. It may have been a residential area where people were trying to sleep.

You're whinging because they gave you a gobful? Grow up. More and more people these days want to whinge because they were harshly spoken to by the Police. Young adults now have never experienced discipline before...they get none from teachers, none from parents, none from employers so when a Policeman gives them a bollocking over something stupid they believe 'they had no right to do that'

Just be thankful you never got a ticket or anything worse.

Im in the army reserve as a rifleman and I know all about disapline 6 weeks in kapoka is no holiday, the way the officers handled the situation last night was unprofessional and the way they talked to me was out of line.

No sympathy from me, you were street racing and you were busted. Do the crime, now do the time. Hope they pinged your mate as well.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

What are u a priest. Street racing??? Pfff you should sell your Xr and buy a sigma. It was probably on a long stretch of highway and he wouldn't have been endangering anyone. Your attitude worries me, cause its the way all the sheep in this country think, believe every peice of bullsh!t u hear on the news and read in the paper!! Its all hysteria just like the fear of terrorism. God this is why morons like braks and scuby get their own way all the time.

My advice with a attitude like urs, go to a mechanic removr your turbo cause u definatly dont need one.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

"he wouldn't have been endangering anyone" :pinch: Not quite...

If he couldn't see a large police car as he flew past the he wouldn't have stood much of a chance noticing a motor cyclist or even someone changing a flat on the roadside.

Like others have said there are places you just should not drive like a d!ckhead.

My advice is to choose more wisely next time.

So, you KNEW you were speeding.

You KNEW the risk you were taking. (Re:Fines etc)

You ADMITTED to the officer you were speeding...

I think the flaming you're copping is more for speeding then protesting thine sweet innocence...If you willing to break the law then be willing to cop some consequences...

Lumpy :w00t2:

PS:I KNOW I have been f*cking lucky to this point in my driving career...

So what I am hearing is just because this cop says he was doing 150 they believe that just becuase he is a cop? its that right? really? Just becuase he has been in highway patrol for a x amount of years that is evidence and he says he trailed u because he was taught so equasion at highway patrol school. WHAT THE. THAT IS JUST HORSE TURD.

I think that is not good enough.

Daniel,

I have been booked twice on the basis of an estimated speed.

Once (back in '88) I took it to court, the police fabricated the report, and my barrister didn't have a chance.

You may not like it, but it's true.

Brian

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

No Brian I don't like it, and this is probably another reason police get bad name. So all police tell the truth as far as our legal system is concerned. Justice pffff Not in this country.

Plonky you say don't police bash when things like this happen. U also say if you get booked and don't like it take it to court its your right. WHAT IS THE POINT OF TAKING IT TO COURT. NO POINT, WHATSOEVER.

Daniel,

Keep things in perspective.

Most police are honest and just doing their job, so no use in police bashing here.

I was booked 4 years ago on the basis of estimated speed, sure I didn’t like it, but I paid my fine without protest. I was guilty under the law.

What happened 17 years ago was very different, and in the past. I was innocent then, and the only reason I went to court.

You speed; sooner or later you get caught. I don’t lose any sleep over it.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The point of taking it to Court?

Plenty!

The Magistrate may give you a Section 10 (proved/dismissed)

You may get a lower financial penalty

You may not get a license suspension

Heck, you may even win!!

Plenty of reasons to take it to Court.

Police don't just drive around and issue TINS/summons or arrest people purely for the fun of it. It is actually a fair bit of work to proceed with a prosecution but when a prosecution has been commenced (such as issuing a TIN) it is the Courts job to determine where the truth is.

This is the main reason why I was so opposed to radar dependence (where Police just drive around and flick out Radar TINS ) and the whole 'speed kills' campaign. Speeding is just part of the problem.

The main problem is attitude (which in Australian drivers is shocking) and basic road rules (Stopping at Stop Signs, using indicators, tailgating, sitting in the overtaking lanes etc)

The difference is that basic road rule enforcement is a little bit harder than writing out speeding tickets, as with a radar/lidar ticket you have the advantage of a scientific instrument (which has shown to be 100% accurate) and the only defence to a radar/lidar ticket is the actual operation of the instrument.

The assertion that Police lie at Court is offensive.

The loneliest place in the world is the witness box. There is no esaping it, you can't run away, everything you say is recorded, defence Barristers and solicitors are constantly trying to trick you into saying something or admitting something which benefits the defendant.

Magistrates know when people lie, that includes the Police, defendant, solicitors etc.

I don't know what your experiences have been at Court (that's if you have even been there) but I can tell you that if you lie you will be found out.

In my 17 years in the Police, I have spent most of it as a Detective at the Armed Holdup Squad. I have worked at Homicide, NSW Crime Commission, Organised Crime, Drug Squad as well as divisional Detectives and the SPG. Highway Patrol is something I did (before I was shafted by the majority of lazy HWP blokes) for a short time (4 years).

If you want to avoid getting tickets be a bit smarter about where you give it a bootful, drop a patch or race one of your mates. If you do get stopped you have more chance of getting a caution or getting the speed dropped down if you are polite and apologetic.

A bad attitude is a certain recipe for a ticket!

Exactly! Wise words indeed.

Now can we please keep this friendly without reverting to the usual (sub)standard of police-related threads?
