I think for just w@nk factor alone, I think it's a great thing. When people hop in it's just another way to set your car apart from the rest. A throw back to the old days of true sports cars.

Even the M3 and M5 drivers don't have one (flame retardand suit active)

And thanks YCL for the answer...

I had a Nissan Maxima the other night, it doesn't have a key (well there is a little backup key hidden in the remote), as long as your within 3 feet of the car you can unlock it by pushing a button on the door, and start it by turbing a switch where a key would be.

It was excellent, and makes swapping drivers easy, if you drive somewhere and your partner drives home, you don't have to give her the key, just hop in and go. It was great.

Work car was being serviced so they through the ST-L at us. Tell you what, I wouldnt waste any money on FOrd or Holdens luxury class, this think was outstanding, faster, more comfortable, better on fuel and had more features and was nearly 10K cheaper. Awesome car, the one we got had a bodykit and wing, looked better than a Calais or Fairmont. Very impressed.

Starter button would be better if located in a different spot.
