I am sure in NSW we are protected by the 10% error law, so they cannot "ajust the radar" settings to a lower level like they do in Vic.

I am also suprised that the NSW government is changing the fines as they are all about money not safety.

But when u get a cop which of couse is just doing his job busting you, knowing that u now lose a QTR of your license for something as ridiculous as 10k over in a 50,60,70,80 or 90 zone, that's when I wil start a cop bashing but not a bashing against all cops just the one cop and others like him.

All this news makes me think why I should bother only doing up to 15 over when the points are the same for 15 and over. Looks like there is no point doing the speed limit anymore, Ill be doing up to 30k over now.

Once my license is lost which it will be approx once every 2 years. I will buy a $500 car in my brothers name memorise his liscence number etc have a copy of his medicare card and something else in his name in a wallet in the car just in case of breath tests and just do the speed limit for 3 months and only drive to work and back.

I know it sounds crazy and wrong but there is no Fcuking way am I going to bother obaying any of this stupid and inreasonable rules this fuKced up govenment passes. The amount of anger news like this brings to me makes me so sick and sadened.

No wonder I dismiss most road rules as rubish the more crap like this comes in the less chance they will have of convincing me that other rules on the road are for safety and not revenue.

I hope all u police out there dont pull over anyone for less than 15k over the limit and if u do u deserve the cop bashing...

Look I don't like this any more than anyone else, and I certainly don't like focusing on speeding tickets for 'Mum's and Dad's' and other decent people that are out there working and paying taxes.

However, what I do agree with (and my superiors didn't) is that hoodlums, boy racers, crims and the 'Performance Sticker and Bodykit brigade' need to be pounded with the Traffic Act. I fully support that type of traffic enforcement.

10% plus 2 minus 3....+2-3 being the tolerance of the speed detection device when mobile.

Looking at 48 as being 10% +2- 3 s being the lowest ticket you could give in a 40 zone (I would give it to an unemployed dole recipient drug dealer, hoodlum or bigmouth, then most people get off pretty lightly.

For a 60 zone, the lowest speed written out would be a 69 in a 60 zone, and again that would only be written out for a hoodlum, druggie, thief, bigmouth or recidivist traffic offender.

You would have to be doing a decent speed in excess of the posted limit to get a ticket.

Went to WA over Chistmas to go hangliding, got pulled over for 120 in a 110 zone, cop gave me a warning and let me off. Back in the NT a month later, I drove to Darwin the and sat on 180 all the way to the end of the unrestricted zone, roads were of about the same quality and traffic conditions were similar. Passed two copcar, the cops smiled and waved (they drive atmo XR6's here) Now whay is it in WA if I did that I'd loose my licence? Are territory drivers that much better?

The other issue here is that some one travelling at 6Kph over (in a 60 zone) is now the same (in points) as some one doing 29 kph over........... please this is a f%$#ing joke.

you can quite easily go 6 kph over the limit and be a sane sensible driver who is making an honest mistake, and deserves the penalty after all that's the law.

However I don't believe anyone can unknowingly travel at 29 kph over the limit, and if you can you shouldn't be driving anyway. Yet they are the same???????

christ when will the NSW govt get a grip on reality and get the whole points / double demerits / fines etc all in order.....

whilst not a laughing matter, it is a joke that double demerits is proving that it doesn't effect the road toll one little bit... maybe some driver education would.

PS, I am a safe driver as I currently have 4 points on my licence (yes got them in a double demerit weekend doing just over the 80kph limit) and have never lost my licence.

From April 1, it is proposed that the fine for exceeding the speed limit by up to 15 km/h in NSW will be reduced from $130 to $75. However, the demerit points for this offence will be increased from 2 points to 3 points. I guess that means you can have one less speeding offence every 3 years...

Speeding fines for offences above 15 kmh will not be changed. About two-thirds of speeding fines are in the 0 to 15 kmh category.

A good move I think.

I remember when the system was overhauled and the NRMA praise the RTA / Police for the 1 point for 0-15km/h. They said it proved they were interested in catching tthe dangerous speeders and not punishing those who made a mistake every now and again.

What's next... We'll get to the point where its an automoatic disqualification for 0-15KM...

Try driving in Europe. They know how to drive and don't stuff around with this rubbish. Speed limits in the country are ridiculously slow.

Improve Driver education and get off the "Speed Kills" campain. Cars are so much safer and stop so much better than they were even 20years ago.. Speeding isn't the problem, it's the idiots who don't know where to slow down that is the problem. DRIVER EDUCATION IS THE ANSWER
