From April 1, it is proposed that the fine for exceeding the speed limit by up to 15 km/h in NSW will be reduced from $130 to $75. However, the demerit points for this offence will be increased from 2 points to 3 points. I guess that means you can have one less speeding offence every 3 years...

Speeding fines for offences above 15 kmh will not be changed. About two-thirds of speeding fines are in the 0 to 15 kmh category.

A good move I think.

Is it already 2 points in NSW for this offence, up here in god's country it's only one point for up to 12km over.

Another good reason to stay north of the border!

:spoton:

But it is good to see that finally they are waking up to reality.

Trent.

OK I smell a bad smell here. You gonna have me believe the govt. is going to give up $20m a year? Don't think so!!!

This is how it works - it is the most common offence, the one most cameras get people for. Next thing you know the cameras will be set to a lower limit - this is actually already happening. Also more double demerit periods are being introduced so just one offence for say 6kph over in a 60 zone and half your points are gone bye bye. So more and more people will be accumulating the 12 points and losing their licences for three or six months or whatever. How much does it cost to get your licence back? AND remember you don't get any refund on your existing licence if you lose it so if you've renewed for three years kiss a couple hundred goodbye right there for a starter. Then when you get it back you don't qualify for a three year licence so you are hit with a premium on your one year jobbie for so many years, I forget exactly what it is.

BUT in any event you can bet your @rse the govt will not be giving up $20m without knowing they'll recoup it from some other means.

I agree..........I can see the NSW Government introducing a smaller % margin of error on cameras and radars..........similar to the Victorian scheme.

The fines will be less............but more people will be caught.

Cutting the fines is just eye candy........this will raise more revenue than ever!

I am sure in NSW we are protected by the 10% error law, so they cannot "ajust the radar" settings to a lower level like they do in Vic.

I am also suprised that the NSW government is changing the fines as they are all about money not safety.

Hey plonky, this will not turn into cop bashing, we plan on bashing up the NSW government on this one. :glad:

I hope you are happy and well :glad:

Thanks Zap....

I know what you're saying but in a recent post a simple question was given a simple answer and one retard turned it swiftly into a cop basing thread.

A complaint was made by me (and I have been pretty tolerant over the years but I have had enough) to the Moderators and nothing was done!!!

The 10% rule, as you mentioned has never been written down in any of our manuals except one...and that was the slant radar manual. Everything else (KR10, Silver Eagle, ProLaser) only talks about the tolerance....+2-3 for mobile and +2-2 for stationary. The 10% with +2-3 tolerance is verbally taught.

10% allowance relates to the Australian Standard for speedometer accuracy and that is why it has been used as a guide in NSW.

This has been visited many times, Paul Gibson from StaySafe argued that we should issue ticket for ANY speed in excess of the posted limit and it was argued that it was impossible for us to do so and get a conviction.

I guess with the reduction of the financial penalty but the inceras of demerit points mean that there will be a massive inceras in 'suspended' licenses but with no way of enforcing the suspension unless the driver admits knowledge of the suspension.

It is good to see the cost coming down but what concerns me is the fact that in a double demerit points period you could get booked for 70 in a 60 zone twice and loose your licence. That's rediculous.

Insurance companies better get use to insureing people that have had their licence suspended.

No cop bashing here just a bad idea on the governments part I think.

Yep,

It seems a windfall for all except the person who looses their license.

It is VERY rare to meet anyone who has never been booked by camera for speeding. I just pitty the poor professional drivers (cabs/couriers/etc) who are bound to loose their license.

It is no wonder that people get busted for driving unlicensed, it is so easy to loose.
