I've been a member on this site for 12 months now & I have read many tips to improve or fix the XR6T. For my mind there have been too many fixes but I guess having the help there is better than nothing.

Anyway I have had rough idling & stalling on my T for 3 weeks now ( Oct 03 with 20k ) & on Sunday I decided to do something about it. Previously I have read a post that spoke about carbon build up in the intake to the engine thingy where there is a butterfly flap thingy. I cant quite recall what everything is called so as you can see I'm not that technically minded....however !

I pulled off the airfilter piping , the piping from the turbo into the big black thing that sits on top of the motor , & then managed to get to the intake. Whilst I was loosening the clamps on the piping from the turbo before I could do 1 rotation of the screw the piping fell off. Wasn't I surprised ! I noticed a little tiny bit of oil at the flange that connects to the turbo , but not enough to be concerned about .... I think ?

Well the post was right , there was black 5hit all over the butterfly flap & the walls of the intake. I cleaned it up with a rag & took special care not to drop any crap down the intake. Put all the piping back on & tightened all the clamps properly. Not the way Ford did. I did it properly.

Anyway the rough idling is gone & I can feel considerable increase in performance. There's no stalling & I am again a happy camper.

I guess the reason I posted the results was

1. To show others that the rough idling might be from the carbon build up & loose piping. To help.

2. To thank the person who originally posted the fix. Thanks !

3. And to once again complain about the build quality of my T , thanks to Ford. Never again !

Cleaned mine to, both my Turbo and my XR8, no stalling for about 50km's now they are both doing it again. The manual XR8 does it 2 to 3 times every time I drive it, and the Turbo only occasionally being an auto but idles shocking.

Sorry, but it looks like a trip to the dealer for you. I have cleaned mine twice . Once at 25k and again at 40k , and no rough idle. Sounds like yours is ECU related.Maybe time for an edit :spoton:

Good fuel helps alot 2

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

We have all ways put in either shell optimax or bp ultimate on the coast as that's it for 98.

When we where in sydney we used vortex 98 and mobile 8000 geuss what the type of fuel made no difference at all.
