We were all so hopeful. You are right though this problem has been found on a few carsHi.Did you ever get anywhere with this? I've got a very similar rattle in a BFII - dash has been out a few times but they just can't find the problem. Sometimes it sounds like a relay clicking on each bump - other times more like a creaking door opening. Sounds like it's exactly where you describe it. It's driving me nuts. I have the same thing and it's going in on monday to have some valve or solenoid replaced that is located at the firewall end of the engine bay on the passenger side. My BA Phoon did it to Just a bit more Ford Aus quality control.

Guys had over 5 rattles/creaks in the Rspec...The some how fixed all of them only to clean the dash with the wrong stuff and screw up the dash...Went back last week and was replaced with a whole new dash... now 2 of the noises are back...Had a play around yesterday/listen and found where a few of them are coming from...There is 3 on the passenger side... One is coming from the airbag in the dash (behind the cover)... it is a random very light knocking sound... as if something (maybe the airbag cartridge) isnt sitting in right..The other is actually coming from the air conditioner... if you listed and switch you AC from fresh air to recycle you will hear a slight power related type of motor noise... is its the one that sound like it comes from behind the glove box...The other seems to be at the edge (corner) of the passenger side pilller/windscreen/dash... The pilller cover has 2 teeth like clips which lock into the top of the dash... which have a little bit of play in it... I think this is the one that is coming from the pot holes/speed humps etc in the road...There was some on both sides of the dash in and around the air vents, and side end plastic covers... they were fixed by the dealer with some refitting and a little bit of sticky foam I think last time...Havent pulled the Airbag cover off as yet... thought I would leave that up to the service dept as the car needs to go back again (6th in just under 3 months)... when they took out the dash to replace it they took out the drivers seat... when they were putting it back in... they dropped in on the door frame/kick panel...Its scratched the paint on the bottom of the door frame pretty bad, and scratched the scuff plate and the crome painted insert... I wasn't able to go off my head when I picked the car up, as this time they were nice enough to call me and advise what had happened before I got there...Apparently the Service Manager lost it and not only half the guys in the work shop but the guys in the office coped it before I picked it up... Dam... he did it for me!Anyways, hope this guides you to the right spot...Oh yeah - still have this really weird squeak (almost sounds like a bird chirping) in the rear 1/4 area.. sounds like a fuel pump issue to me, or diff noise... they have had 3 goes at it so far but still there...Got us stuffed! mic Donating Members 1,725 Member For: 16y 10m 26d Gender: Male Posted 13/06/08 05:20 AM Share Posted 13/06/08 05:20 AM I remember one day in summer when it was really hot, all of a sudden my breaks started squealing like crazy(when I slowed down to park). Exactly like fingernails down a chalkboard. I emptied some brake fluid from the reservoir because it was too full and it never happened again. aiboart Member 665 Member For: 19y 10m 29d Posted 13/06/08 08:28 AM Share Posted 13/06/08 08:28 AM (edited) I was also hoping to get my car on a hoist tomorrow, somewhere, to track down a large bang that seemed to occur only when the car and or drivers side front wheel drops rapidly. At first I thought it was strictly confined to wheel rebound, but now it appears to require body motion to induce the noise. When the noise occurs it sounds just like the body is hit with a metal rod. The origin appear to vary from in the wheel well immediately under the left foot (you can feel bang originate there... or so it seems), to quite high in the shock tower, to in the bottom of the drivers door. The dealer has had a go at it twice now... torqued bolts, charged me for it, etc etc. I have checked the strut top mounts and all is sound. The car is running Bilsteins and in all other respects the suspension is utterly refined and silent. It is possible to drive hundreds of km without the slightest noise, however, you can predict exactly when the banging will happen. The perfect trigger is when the road drops away at the end of a small bridge and the suspension rebounds and the body drops slightly. Sometimes the road conditions generate a constant stream of bangs.I am starting to think that it could be the exhaust system of a mount of some type...Any suggestions?Regards,aa Edited 13/06/08 08:31 AM by aiboart
