Well, after waiting 3 months for my new ride to arrive, I received a call from the dealership on Friday saying the car had arrived Thursday night. I'd ordered the car 30/10/04, wanting a '05 build 6 speed with premium brakes and premium audio, in Velocity.

Being excited I thought I'd take a drive to the dealership Fri morning to have a look. After scouting around with the salesman we couldn't find it - it was probably out on a test drive or something. Anyway, not having enough time to stay I left saying I have a look later in the afternoon.

Around 230pm I receive a phone call from the finance guy saying the car has arrived with all the bells and whistles, except, the car is the wrong colour. It's white!

The dealership has given me several offers:

1. They will take the car back and get another one built in the colour I want, but I won't get it until at least the end of March! I'll get a loan car until the new one arrives.

2. I take the car as it is and will probably get a rebate for the paint.

3. I can cancel the order and walk away.

It's not the colour I wanted but won't wait another 7 - 8 weeks for the car to arrive in the right colour. I think I'll take the car in white, get the rebate for the difference in price of the paint and squeeze a couple of free services out of them.

I can't believe the factory screwed up so badly with the order  :spoton: clowns

You now have me worried

My car will arrive in March (black) so I just had a quick look at the Vehicle Specification sheet to make shure that all the options I have ordered are correct.

I believe you can track a vehicle by the SIDO number. but this still does not take out human error.

I wish you all the best with your new car.

I'm not doing my signature to I have the vehicle.

Regards

It's funny you mention the SIDO number. I was given one approximately mid January. Typed the number in and entered my email address - kept getting the same recurring error - vehicle has not been retailed.

It just so happened that I rang the dealer on Monday to find out where the car was at - was originally told it would be in Perth around the 14th of Feb - then it was brought forward to 9th Feb - then was told on Monday it would be delayed by 5 days due to 2 train derailments near Merridin in WA.

I merely happened to call past the dealer on Friday to get another update. That's when I was told the car was in the yard.

I dunno what happened - maybe my car has been sent somewhere else and I have someone elses car

Anyways, looks like I'm the proud new owner of a white XR6T, Jan '05 build 6 speed with premium brakes, premium audio, pollen filter, scuff plates, headlight covers and spare alloy wheel.

Thanks all for the feedback.

It wasn't the dealer's fault. The contract clearly stated Velocity, not white. Unfortunately it was Ford's fault.

Basically, I've taken the car as I don't want to wait another 7 - 8 weeks. I like the white car; it's got all the options I chose bar the colour. The dealer has thrown in a couple of free major services, rebate on the paint, some merchandise and tickets to tour FPV.

As sully59 alluded to it was basically a take-it or leave-it offer from the dealer. They were limited to what they could do. After all I really did screw them on the deal with a $6200 'special fleet discount'. My car optioned up cost me less than $50k driveaway. They would sell it for $55 - $56k to someone that is keen to buy it.

Can't wait till Monday to drive it  :spoton:

I think this alludes to where the real probelm is. You mentioned getting a "fleet discount" In my experience, fleet cars are often grabbed from whichever dealer has one....not made up especially for your order.

In 2003 I ordered Mercury Silver with Plexis Red interior. I ordered it about 3 months before my current lease expired. The car turned up 2 months early.

I went to view it at the dealer and it had a Plexis Grey interior. I insisted that they find me a Plexis Red interior as I was still in my current lease and therefore not in any hurry for the new car.

The dealer then grabbed one from a Toowoomba dealership and had it transferred down to Sydney.... still approx 3 weeks earlier than I needed it.

At least it was the right colour this time. Was certainly a long three weeks before I was able to jump in it and take it away.

Maybe others find similar experiences with "fleet" purchases ?

I think it would have taken a fluke for the dealer to source a car with the equipment level I ordered and it being a Jan '05 build.

Don't be so sure....the only "real" option you have asked for is Premium Brakes. It is my guess that a lot of the cars are ordered with Premium Stereo. As for the other things....the dealer adds them.

that's the dealers fault. Ford doesnt get your contract, the dealer enters the details of your order into their computer system, l am sure that's where the fcukup happened.

You let them off very easily IMO, but as long as your happy. White does look good especially with 18's. My only concern would be resale time which is why getting some additional sweetners now would help to offset that.

Cheers Simon

M6,

Check the SIDO numbers on ALL the paperwork, the car (sticker on the windscreen) and what you were given in Jan.

Errors like this should never happen as the production line is all computerised. You may find you car IS at another dealer and you may be able to get it back if the SIDO's are different :spoton:

Worth a try
