Well, after waiting 3 months for my new ride to arrive, I received a call from the dealership on Friday saying the car had arrived Thursday night. I'd ordered the car 30/10/04, wanting a '05 build 6 speed with premium brakes and premium audio, in Velocity.

Being excited I thought I'd take a drive to the dealership Fri morning to have a look. After scouting around with the salesman we couldn't find it - it was probably out on a test drive or something. Anyway, not having enough time to stay I left saying I have a look later in the afternoon.

Around 230pm I receive a phone call from the finance guy saying the car has arrived with all the bells and whistles, except, the car is the wrong colour. It's white!

The dealership has given me several offers:

1. They will take the car back and get another one built in the colour I want, but I won't get it until at least the end of March! I'll get a loan car until the new one arrives.

2. I take the car as it is and will probably get a rebate for the paint.

3. I can cancel the order and walk away.

It's not the colour I wanted but won't wait another 7 - 8 weeks for the car to arrive in the right colour. I think I'll take the car in white, get the rebate for the difference in price of the paint and squeeze a couple of free services out of them.

I can't believe the factory screwed up so badly with the order   :censored: clowns

You now have me worried

My car will arrive in March (black) so I just had a quick look at the Vehicle Specification sheet to make shure that all the options I have ordered are correct.

I believe you can track a vehicle by the SIDO number. but this still does not take out human error.

I wish you all the best with your new car.

I'm not doing my signature to I have the vehicle.

Regards

Creepy

you cannot track the car .SIDO number is for the dealers to track .You can only log into FORD.com. and get photos of your car being built when the dealers have noted that you have recived the car

I noticed that when you say you were scouting around looking for it, the thought was that it was out on a test drive or something.

What gives them the right to test drive your new car. Seeing you ordered it and expect to get it with 0 ks on the clock that surpises me a bit.

I know they still own it untill you sign it up but still...

Simple:

1) Demand a new one be built withouyt delay - ie ask them to make it a priority order not subject to the usual delays.

2) Demand a replacement car (with full insurance and no excess payable by you). That car must be an XR6 Turbo of FPV model car. Do not accept a lame standard Ford. Push hard enough and they will make it happen. Escalate it to Ford itself if the dealer wotn make it happen.

3) If you ordered through that dealer, they probably made the mistake. Demand some free options be installed on the new car to cover your inconvenience. An alternative is to get the first year servicing for free (including parts and labout), which they will likely do if they also have a service department.

It's becoming more evident that the error was probably made at the dealership, rather than at the factory. Both people from the dealership tried to tell me that the error was made at the factory, but having read some of the replies here I'm starting to doubt that. The system at the factory is automated - I doubt the factory would have grave errors like cars being painted the wrong colour occuring.

I wasn't able to see the dealer principle yesterday, so had to deal with the salesman and the finance guy. I'll make sure I arrange to see the dealer principle on Monday (He's a nice guy and made the deal happen for me in the first place) and see what he has to say about it. I doubt that he's actually aware of what's happened and I'm sure he'll be as disappointed as what I was when I first found out.

We'll see what happens tomorrow. Wouldn't mind the white car as the 'loaner' :censored:

BTW, it only had 8kms on the odo when I saw it Friday.

Thanks all for the feedback.

It wasn't the dealer's fault. The contract clearly stated Velocity, not white. Unfortunately it was Ford's fault.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

that's the dealers fault. Ford doesnt get your contract, the dealer enters the details of your order into their computer system, l am sure that's where the fcukup happened.

Cheers Simon

Mondie is spot on.

Exactly the same thing happened to me! I originally ordered Blueprint, but rung up the following day to change my contract to Merc Silver. Yeah, sure, my contract was changed on the spot, but it wasn't changed on the FoMoCo system! Result? One BLueprint T arrived with my SIDO!

The dealer muffed it. Not FoMoCo.

In SA I think the only people that order white falcons are my parents (3 in a row) and taxi companies. As said before, resale would be my concern. Most people wanting this type of car like a bit of lair factor IMO. This will flow through to second hand buyers too. I picked a Regency Red EL XR6 with 30K on the clock over a White one with 8K on the clock a few years back when the deals were about the same.

Stick it out and get the one you wanted I say.
