Also sometimes when I turn the engine off I hear this loud wind down bearing noise(lasts about 2 sec)

that's the sound of the ball bearing spinning down in the turbo once the car is turned off

Had my car in at service on Monday and Today for more tests. Well just got a call from them to say they are finished and found what the problem is.

They said it was overboosting that was causing it.!!?? wtf So what have they done, Apply the famous flash to the ECU! :censored:

(I have a 04 MKII)

They said that they have reduced the sound of it by 95% and the reason it is slightly still there is because of my 2nd CAI.

Now this is absolutly crap as I was having this issue before I fitted the 2nd CAI

Will see how we go when I pick it up, Me thinking I am going to be real pi$$ed when I pick it up cus it will Feel like it won't go as hard and still have the sound!

Getting back on topic...

Picked up the car this morning, asked to clarify what was the cause and what is making the sound.

Answer: Its becasue it was running 8pounds instead of the std 6 and as a result makes the turbo spin faster resulting in higher spool sound.

:spoton: Can I just make this clear. It is not turbo spool sound! It is an extra abnormal sound on top of the spooling noise.

Service guys failed to understand this and insisted that it was fixed as they noticed a reduction in noise after re calibrating.(umm hello? yes that's cus it was the turbo spool that was reduced but not the abnormal noise)

Anyway, The car felt fine, even after the flash drove for about 40min then what do you know, the sound it back.

I really think it is a leak of some sort and its when the car has been run for a bit (heat?, expansion of pipes, Rubber joiners?) Do notice slight loss of performance while the sound is on.

Dont know what to do now...

well done on :mole:'ing a 15 year old thread :) haha  :Welcome2FordXR6t:

it could be a restriction in your exhaust that's causing air to get a bit trapped on the way out.

hopefully that's it because it wont have that exhaust in new car bought it for engine swap id find it very strange if that was the reason but as it has an aftermarket dump on it seems to be atleast 4 inch and then it has a system that goes to 4 tips
