Hi Everyone

I just thought I would relate a story to you. I was in canberra today and thought whilst there I would get my wheels rotated, they talked me into a balance as well.

Anyhow the guy asked me what pressure I was running in the tyre and I said 40, I have previously been running them at 36 and a few months back went to 40, with a noticable improvement in ride and handling.

Anyhow after the balance and rotate and an extra 4 psi in them off I went back to syd..... wow... all I can say is that I thought the car went well at 40.. at 44 it is way better in ride and handling again.

these are the standard dunlops it came with.

Anyway just thought you would like to know.

cheers :spoton:

On the freeway from Canberra to Sydney 44 psi may be OK. You have the risk however of severe wheel hopping on less than perfect surfaces. Braking distances are one thing that can be severely effected by this so be wary. Also there is a point where the pressure (too much) inside the tyre may work to damage the sidewalls just the same as having too low a pressure. For example if you hit a deep pothole the tyre will not be able to give and the shock load can damage the sidewalls. I'd stick to 40 for normal street use. I use 44-45 only when on the track.

Well most of my driving is Sydney - Canberra, I had my fronts on 42, rears on 40 and that chewed up the middle of the tyre like there is no tomorrow. I had plenty of tread on the sides, just not in the middle after only 24,000kms.

Now I'm on 40 front, 37 rear. Good comprimise between handling, comfort and long life.

I did a defensive driving course late last year, They said that normal tyres should be atleast 36 prefferably 40, low profiles should be atleast 40 prefferably 45, if you have ever seen the cross section of a low profile tyre you would understand why (they are very thin on the sides)

It was actually suggsted that the lkower pressure be used for suburban driving and the higher pressure be used for freeways as it keeps the tyres cooler... dunno how true that is

Exactly what happened to me Cro. Now I run those exact pressures with good tyre wear and still handles really well.
