Hi guys. Someone sent me an email regarding the blue window switches in a standard sound T. I deleated the email and don't know who it was. I always try to help when I can so hopefully whoever sent it is reading this. There is a diagram in the main thread on blue window swicthes that explains in great detail how to do it.

Hi Geea

My problem is that I have read the thread 3X now and am confused about the drivers switch. The thread appears to suggest that you need to rig up non-premiums differently to premiums.

The question is whether you put the LEDs with negative left or right.

I have put a Ford illuminated switch in there and it works even though my T is non-premium. When I disassembled the illuminated Ford switch the LEDs were negative to the left. (except for the bottom drivers window which was reversed).

Appreciate any advice you may have.

I remember the LED's being all the same except one which I think was the drivers which was the opposite. What you said sounds about right.

I usually solder in the resistors and check the LED's work then solder them in.

Does anyone have the document outlining how to do it in a non-premium sound BA? The link was broken in the original topic :/

I also only have the front windows powered. I am wondering, since I have little electrical experience, if it may be better to go to the dealer and see if they will do it for me with the fairmont parts? Can anyone give me a ballpark figure of how much it may cost? Are these ones blue too?

I have soldered before - I think my problem would be putting all the little parts together.

If you read the thread you will come across the instructions posted by KIWI.

Its really not a difficult task. I have got my non-premium up and running by following KIWIs instructions to the letter. Despite what you might read in the thread I didnt find any difference in the drivers switch between premium and non-premium.

Used Jaycar 3000mcd 3mm blue LEDs and approx 650 ohm resistors. May be a bit bright for some though.

Contact me if you need any help

Good luck

Thanks Henry for the info. I had already read through the 13 odd pages but discounted the instructions KIWI wrote as I thought they were for the Premium setup.

I went online to Jaycar in the hope I could order the LED's and online but did find any. Would you have a Jaycar Part Number for both the resistors and LEDs if possible

I see you are in Sydney, Henry, I am keen for someone to sort this out for me ... happy to chuck in a case of cold ones + parts ... I have a Lux Pack, etc so it would finish it off well ... PM if anyone can help :pinch:

Cheers, Jason.

Hi Scooter

The parts I used from Jaycar are as follows:

ZD0132 - LED 3mm Blue 3000mcd

RR0568 - .5 watt 680ohm resistors (8 pack)

As I said, the LEDs I used with these resistors may be a bit bright for some tastes and certainly a lot brighter than the factory switches.

Enjoy, its a real buzz when you get that glow!

I decided to add the lights to my light switches after seeing how a Fairmont looks.

So, I bought 3mm LED's and resistors and gave it a go.

Although I have soldered SMD devices before, I couldn't be bothered stuffing around with a magnifying glass and the fiddly work involved.

After I had installed the 3mm LED's I found that the light was not even.

I re-aligned the LED's to try and get a more even effect, but it always looked crap.

ie each button would have a different light intensity

I got fed up of how it looked, so I removed the LED's and bought the SMD blue LEDs.

Looks heaps better than before. I wish I had bought SMD's at the beginning.

If you are thinking of doing this, don't under estimate how small the SMD devices are!

Worth the effort though!
