Guest Xr6Tas Guests Posted 05/04/03 11:38 AM Share Posted 05/04/03 11:38 AM Well after a fun 24 hours I'm back in Hobart with my shiny new XR6T For those that don’t know I chose to buy from Westpoint Ford in Victoria rather than my local dealer due to a better price and shorter waiting time. My fiancé and I flew up yesterday morning and were picked up by a Westpoint employee at the airport. 1 hour later and we were taking delivery of our Mercury Silver XR6T. I hadn't seen a Merc Silver model in the flesh until laying eyes on my beast at Westpoint, so my jaw dropped at how awesome it looks. Like most colours in the XR range photos just don’t do it justice. Then there's the car itself! :D I took it fairly easy in Vic of course, as I was driving an unregistered vehicle (with unregistered vehicle permit until I can register it in Tas here on Monday), in a new car that I wasn’t used to, on roads that are chock full of speed cameras! (How do you guys in Victoria survive?!). Having said that I still couldn't resist giving it a spurt here and there along the way to Port Melbourne, and man it's performance is awesome!! Even though I'd test driven one in Hobart nothing compares to the first time you really floor it in your own vehicle. This thing has oodles of grunt so I can’t imagine how fast it will be after some of the mods people are discussing. Was a bit worried leaving it on the Spirit of Tas as cars are parked VERY close together, so it would only take one loser to open their door and put a major ding in the paintwork. Luckily the car just screams "touch me and die" so people were very careful around it The drive back to Hobart from Devonport (where the Spirit of Tas docks) was just insane. Gave me a chance to see what the car was really capable of. Needless to say I got into some serious trouble from my fiancé who I think is still recovering. Overall she is as happy as I am with the car though which is great. It’s the perfect blend of performance, practicality, and comfort which is exactly what we were after.Big thanks goes out to Craig Waller at Westpoint Ford who has gone out of his way from day one, keeping me informed of the build progress at every step. He has also answered any queries I have had (and there has been lots of them!) very quickly, and gave us a great deal on the car. Can’t recommend Westpoint highly enough. While we’re on the topic of thankyous a big thanks to everyone here at the forums for contributing all the info I have soaked up over the last few months. When I stumbled across this site I had very limited knowledge of the car (only what I had picked up in the press) so being able to read up on and discuss every little detail of it has been great. It also helped me decide the exact options I was after. Keep up the great work with the site Chris.I only have the one pic so far of the car at Westpoint, as I was too busy enjoying the drive to think about photos! B) Not to mention some #$%@ in a tractor just happened to be driving along in the gravel along the side of the Princes Highway and sprayed an arseload of dust all over the car 5 minutes after pickup! (Murphy’s law). Obviouslly I wasn’t very impressed, but after a quick wash today it’s back to its former glory.Going for a big cruise tomorrow so I'll make sure I take plenty of nice pics along the way Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/1543-another-mercury-silver-xr6t-on-the-road/ Share on other sites

I kinda don't want mine delivered before Easter though, as I'm going down south and don't want to have to drive like a Granny all the way.
