Hey I was just wondering what the difference in car lengths would be if a one car ran a 12.7 and another ran a 12.9 down the 1/4 is there much in it? I was told that 0.1 was 1 car length is this true?

hard to make a generalization, but around 2 car lengths or so.. depending on the mph. Might be 2 car lengths, but the car behind might be closing in at 10mph or so, and it will 'overtake' the 'faster' one very quickly after the race..

For example, a 12.6 rex or evo might only have a 100mph terminal. But a 12.9 'T' might have a mph of 109mph+... the 't' might be 'slower' but it's actually going faster......

As they say, there is a difference between going quick, and going fast..

so which car is 'faster'..

now I'm confused....................

Im no expert but I think it depends on the cars. At willowbank when geea was up I lined up against an xr8 and he beat me by .23 of a second but I thought it was pretty close maybe a coupl of car lengths.

For a well setup race car (slicks- suspension work etc) that would run in the mid to high 12's you would expect termianl speeds of approx 105mph (168kph). This equals 46 m/sec. So if both cars have the same terminal speed, the diffence in ET of 0.2sec would equal 9.3m which is roughly 2 sedan car lengths.

If you apply the same maths to a top fuel car doing 500kph (310 + mph) then a 0.2 second difference would be equal to a 27.6m gap between the cars. This is roughly 3.5 car lengths (of a 300" Top Fueller).

As stated above the mph of both cars can vary for similar ET's and don't forget that reaction times of both cars will affect the gap between cars at the finish line.

This is hard to answer, since there is to many variables, but my first run at willowbank I was beaten by a STI WRX, (I got him off the line  ) he beat me by .2 of a sec yet had a 17MPH higher top end.

Geez mate, it aint real hard is it??

I aint doing the math, but 169km/hr, convert down to m/sec... then divide the meters, or lack of, into tenths of seconds, depending on how long each saloon is, divide that into your car lengths per tenth etc etc etc..

Looking at the numbers, the GT will be pegging with the LS2, but the LS2 will be pulling away at end track, the F6 will be dissapearing into the rear view mirror of both cars.

All cars will be with-in 3-5 car lengths at tracks end.. Nothing in it in the real world.

But to answer your question, at a guess.. the Typhoon would be 'about' 4-5 car lengths behind at the end of the track and getting sh@t on very quickly after that until the LS2 is goooooooooooooooooneeee... with the GT coughing up a lung.

Why do you want to know so bad??
