G'Day guys and gals. Another long time reader here deciding to finally post. To be honest im an ameture when it comes to cars but the info ive gained from here over the last year has been invaluable :ermm: ok on with the question.

Im thinking of getting the FPV sports wheel for my car because the general concensus of the people that have them is that the are fully siak!

I can get my hands on one for $550 odd and I was wondering if anyone has attemped to install one themselves aftermarket?

I believe I need to change the airbag and the radio controls from my existing wheel onto the new one....

Thanks in advance

Chris

I was told these need to be done by a ford dealer or service centre as after you take the factory wheel off the airbag controllers need to be reset for saftey....

but it may just have been a sales pitch!

A guy I know replaced his steering wheel on VU Maloo ute and just took the airbag fuse out before he did it.

I've also heard of guys getting their heads and necks smashed form air-bags going off while they (the inexperienced) worked on them.

not something I'd like... like Jeffro said... leave it to the experts!

It is easy to do as long as you are careful.

You will need a Torx tool to remove the 4 Torx headed bolts that hold the airbag on. Also, the steering wheel is attached to column via Torx head as well.

1) Disconnect battery, wait 5 mins.

2) Remove 4 Torx head bolts from rear of airbag.

3) Unplug the audio control, cruise control, and airbag connections.

4) Remove the Torx bolt that holds steering wheel to column.

5) Turf old wheel, install new wheel.

6) Go and buy Mick a box of beer with the money you saved by installing it yourself! :w00t2:

The rest is just a reversal of removal, just be careful when replacing air bag, the connectors and wires can get in the way, ensure they are tied up properly.

I have installed many BA wheels, 2 on my own cars, 1 on Saleen's, and many others. No airbags have gone off yet! All the talk about air bags having to be "reset" or whatever is not true.
