Hi there,

Put my car a December 04 BA MkII Turbo in for its initial 3000km service yesterday....was informed by the Dealer that a recall was in force on car regarding reflashing the chip on the car.....to do with spark re-mapping and preventing an overboost situation in the engine.

Was just wondering if anyone had any more details on what was changed with the reflashing of the chip?????

Cheers

Are you experiencing any problems?

I have 2,300km on mine and dont have any Engine related problems. if it aint broke dont touch it! I understand it could prevent the problem down the track but dont want this creating new ones!

I wonder with all the bad publicity the Typhoon has copped they are re-flashing the computer further restricting the T so its not quicker than the phoon ( I highly doubt this though)

Many discussions about this topic on the site: Try this Ford Response To Overboost Problem

Ive had the reflash in my MkII, and I've found a general improvement.

Dealership informed me that it would make it faster!! The spark-mapping would remove deadspots on the turbo-power curve.

She certainly seemed to run sweet after I picked her back-up.....faster though....difficult to say.....definately no slower!!

6-speed box is great isn't it!!

I had mine in yesterday as well for an oil and filter change before I head to Central Qld tomorrow, (only 2200klm but I wanted it done anyway) they also removed my towbar and changed the Herrod Twin system to a Quad setup as I originally wanted.

When I drove away from the dealer it was instantly obvious that it was going heaps better(not that there was anything wrong in the first place) lot's smoother and it seems to pull a lot better.

I found out today that they also put this updated flash in, so I can only assume that this why it's going better, I'm happy either way!!

Bazza.

Will these re-flashes disrupt the tunes in our unichips/exedes or edits?

Dazza.

No Dazza, as the unichips etc are a piggy back unit, which is not directly affected by changes within the parametres of the PCM.

If it was the edit, then the reflash would be pointless as you are only going to re-load your performance map back on when you get home, this is where I could see problems though, as they may change parametres outside of the edit which may affect your performance tune when you load it back on? :ermm:

The chip holds it's own info which obviously tricks the pcm. Any variations made to the pcm would be minor in terms of engine tune. I have had a few pcm upgrades with mine and no problems so far. :spoton:
