Hewitt would do himself a good service if he took notice of the sportsmanship shown by other players.  One of the most entertaining matches so far has been the Federer / Suzuki match.  During this match, the Japanese player applauded some of Federer's shots and Federer in turn, acknowledged the applause.

This is appreciated by both the players and the fans.

During the Blake / Hewitt match, Blake acknowledged one of Hewitt's winning shots and Hewitt chose to turn his back on him and play the "come on" routine.  I take offense at Hewitt's cockiness when he is in front and sourness when behind.

You don't see the "come on" routines and bouncing on the toes until the point has been won.  It is easy to offer the challenge once a point has been completed.  ( Much like a person who can't volley for crap, racing to the net after the ball has beaten the other player )

To me, the best thing that Hewitt could learn is a sense of humility.

Now that's been Honest

I think market forces show that Pat Rafter is liked much more than Lleyton ever will be simply because he comes across as a nice bloke.

Pat lost to Goran at Wimbledon not too long ago but carried himself very well considering. Accordingly Dunlop feature him in his ads.

I strongly suspect that if Lleyton was market tested for an ad campaign you would get mixed results and raised eyebrows. :kissmy:

Spoton Gaza

I don't like Hewitt at all, no humility BUT having said that last night he proved he's a great fighter (though how he GOT into that position in the first place.....) and he didn't 'COME ON' much and it was a good game to watch...

However when he carries on like a prat :gooff:

He is playing for his own glory simple as that.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I'd agree there Dally, a heart the side of a Caraway seed, similar in ticker dimensions to Pat Rafter & Kieran Perkins, NO HEART

Scotty

As I said before, I agree he doesn't come across too well and playing singles tennis of course he's playing for 'his own glory' but.....he's the only tennis player I know of that organises his year around playing Davis Cup. I dont reckon he's in the same league (skills and power wise) as Federer, Safin etc but he's got more guts, and "ticker" than all of them, his last two performances have been unbelievable.

As for bagging Rafter and Perkins as well..talk about tall poppy syndrome...

I don't like Hewitt however when he plays I want him to win. Not for himself but for Australia. Doesn't matter who is playing unless it's Pauline Hanson, then I will want them to win.

He's Common's are pathetic. Who is he yelling that too? The other player after he stuffs up?

Sure he's a great player but a great sportsmen? What's the definition of a great sportsman? Someone who wins a lot but is an as*hole in the process of doing so?

When Hewitt starts losing his touch, then the Australia people won't find it hard to forget him.

That's my 2 cents worth.

Go Alicia Molik!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Although his C'MONS annoy the sh*t out of me, you must say they are good for psycing out his opponents, if him doing that is bothering them and putting them off their game then that's just aother tool to help win, they are the elite in that sport and someone yelling out to gee themselves up shouldnt bother them. But it sure annoys me.

Dazza

p.s. Maybe he is yelling them at Bec Cartwright, as in. "CMON, please touch my willy."

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. The commons help him to win but at the expense of his integrity. I remember a year or 2 ago Hewitt was playing against some other guy and Hewit was losing but managed to pick up his game and was close to catching up and winning. The other player then faked a injury at the worst possible time in the match. Hewit and the Austrlalian people got really pissed off and Hewitt ended up losing. It was all over the news. Now Hewit is in the same boat as he resorts to this sort of mischief in his own way.
