On yer Q...perhaps when you upload yer pic, the admin server resizes it to a, well, small one. It can happen but just not sure here. Maybe upload the pic again. Don't know wether that'll fix it but it can't hurt.

For thos who dont know how to use IPB, the avatar scaling optiions are under SYSTEM SETTINGS and then USER PROFILES. Just set the resolution of the avatar to be more than its current spec, which is 1X1 pixel...

That'd increase the dimensions for all users and not just donating members who 'should' have the ability to upload a larger pic.
