Would You Cancel An Order For A Typhoon?

vuster

With all the information about the performance of the Typhoon, would you cancel your order and sacrifice the $1000 deposit and get another car?

S for the GTS, welllllllll........perhaps a slight edit, cold air induction and a couple more little goodies then I reckon the GT will eat it, for a lot less $$$$ too than the GTS. Had a little run with a GTS a couple of weeks ago and I was quite suprised how the 'fox' went against it, can't see $100,000 worth of performance there.

How did you go?

Very interisted in the results :spoton:

One other little note, I suppose Ford could put out a car that would have it all over the opposition in all aspects, but would the punters be prepared to pay the price, I don't think so, for the price I reckon the GT is good value.

I would pay extra for a standard Ford car that smashes a standard HSV, etc ... they have potential customers, but instead they release a disappointing F6 ... and cripple it so it doesn't hammer a GT ... very ordinary!

Don't get me wrong ... I love the GT for what it is ... but FPV need a car to seriously challenge the HSV brand ... and I thought it would be the F6!

How wrong was I :spoton:

Cheers, Jason.

Again we agree jt-GT wonderful in its own right,F6-could have been so much more -very sad,a wasted opportunity

Mate.....it's gotta be........EIGHT!!!! :spoton:

I did a little research and from what I can gather the XY GT was about 41% over in price to the XY 500 (351) man. $4,625 as to $3,277 for the 500. So on dollar for dollar comparison the GT would be priced at $72,297 (as against $51,350 fo the XR8)........STOCK! :w00t2:

Mate the BA GT is a...................bargain!!!!!! :spoton:

BUT........Imagine what they could put out for a price tag of $72,000........STOCK!! :w00t2:

Thanks for your reply Dr Z, oh, and that was not blowing my stack, just a little rumble........

The handling of the GT over the XR8 is, IMHO, way superior, both EID and myself were amazed at the balance the GT has over the XR8, the GT is more like the XR6T in that respect as I quiet liked the XR6T for it's balance.

It's funny how you comment on HSV being so far ahead of the GT when quiet a few testers have come out and said the GT has the goods on the HSV as far as the total package goes. Sure I would like Ford to have given the GT some more top end revs and a slightly better gear ratio to get the 'straight line' performance up, but as this car is a Grand Tourer that is what I like about it.

If 30 rwkw's is tarting up then bring on the painted ladies!!.....

AS for the GTS, welllllllll........perhaps a slight edit, cold air induction and a couple more little goodies then I reckon the GT will eat it, for a lot less $$$$ too than the GTS. But, each to there own, you like your XR6T, I the GT, true the XY had the straight line brute force, but try to stop it safely, handling was not that superior either. With the advancement of technology the experience of driving is so much more enjoyable when you are faced with a good road that takes a bit more skill, feel and concentration, than slamming down the throttle and hanging on, sorry age must be showing here. So, judging by my experiences with the BA line I do enjoy the GT and have no regrets in going from the T to the GT.

One other little note, I suppose Ford could put out a car that would have it all over the opposition in all aspects, but would the punters be prepared to pay the price, I don't think so, for the price I reckon the GT is good value.

Safe, happy and enjoyable motoring........ :spoton:

Dont get me wrong, I LOVE the GT, it will most likely be my next fun car..I just want mine to come with an APS Twin Turbo to compensate for lack of Ford/FPV grunt! :w00t2:

Cancel Typhoon? hell yes. $60k and still no sound, no bulge, no GT name WTF!! This car had to be quicker than xr6T and GT by a second and a half stock for me to even consider it over GT, and have an auto, so at least it had some straight line speed advantage going for it. I would cancel immediately and buy a GT if you're spending $60k. Potential or not (and the Boss has a fair bit, re Hypnodocs, APS twin turbo developement, edit, etc). This appears to be a bad dream. Does not add up or make sense at all.

Good posts everyone. To clarify some of the questions/comments, lets do an XR6T versus F6 performance comparison:

1. Wheels magazine:

XR6T 0-400m: 14.3s

F6 0-400m: 14.6s

Win for XR6T.

Performance tally: XR6T 1 F6 0

2. Motor magazine:

XR6T 0-400m: 14.14s (on a 40 degree day at Avalon airport!)

F6 0-400m: 14.64s (on a 25 degree day)

Win for XR6T.

Performance tally: XR6T 2 F6 0

3. Motor magazine:

XR6T best lap around Winton: 1:46.28

F6 best lap around Winton: 1:46.46 (on a 5 degree cooler day than XR6T!)

Win for XR6T.

Performance tally: XR6T 3 F6 0

Do you think for an extra $13,745 we ought to expect a little more Performance from a Ford Performance Vehicle?

Why don't we get it? Why do Ford/FPV fans have to accept "good but not great" time and time again? In the case of the F6, running standard injectors and a very conservative tune after 4000RPM is the clear answer. Check out the F6 dyno sheets and it is clear to everyone who can read a dyno sheet.

So why did this happen? Marketing or warranty reasons?

Perhaps. Even if that is the case, perhaps Ford/FPV product placement and after-sales support needs a serious re-think, otherwise how do we explain that HSV can deliver a Clubsport that runs consistent 13s quarter miles with full warranty?

My overarching point is FPV promised something VERY SPECIAL and they did NOT deliver! All the above evidence so far suggests that the F6 is NOT very special compared to the already great bang-for-bucks value XR6T.

As Ford/FPV fans we should not have to always settle for second best. FPV, how about making quick reliable cars then supporting them with good after-sales service and honouring warranty or the market will continue to vote with their wallets as they are doing now with declining FPV sales compared to HSV.

David Flint, or anyone from FPV, we are still waiting for your response.

Safe and happy driving...Dr Z. :ermm:

I managed to cancel my order for the Typhoon today and get my full deposit back. The stress of not knowing if the Typhoon will deliver the goods to me was too much for me to handle. I thought to myself, I should be looking forward to getting my car not spend most of the time trying to defend what I was buying and trying to convince myself that I'll be happy with it. The best thing I thought that I could do is just wait and see how the F6's are once Ford have had their chance fixing the clutch etc. If I still want the car then I can order it later.

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulder and I can now actually enjoy reading the posts on this forum without being so emotional.
