I have seen my mates standard auto GT pull away (about a car lenght or so) from a stage 2 APS XR6T on the freeway from 60km/h until 160-180. The distance between them was dependent on inital speed and who hit slightly first. Either way the GT pulled away.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Okay, I'll bite

Was the APS Phase II XR6 towing a boat maybe?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I am with you, there is no way in the f#$king world that the GT would pull away from the T with Phase II.Well unless it was towing a boat.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Are you talking from experience....Have you ever seen a phase 2 and GT in a high speed run...Also if u reread my thread I did say a car length in front, which is really negligible...

BTW there could be many reasons for this..maybe the phase 2 had a bad batch of fuel or he could have been running on a full tank ...maybe the stars weren't aligned for him..or simply he was a bad driver...who knows....

Hi guys im torn between a xr6t or a gt? If I do decide to go with the xr6t I will be adding a carbon gt bonnet and gt bodykit with mayb a aps stage 2 kit! With the gt do a few mods here and there. In reality for street use which one would be better and quicker for getting around in?

Anway this thread is about choosing between a GT and standard XR6T.

But I do tend to agree with you that if we are comparing the GT with a phase II T then performance wouldn't be a factor in choosing the car. But then we are not comparing apples with apples..

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

The way I read it the original question was standard GT or XR6T + PHASE II which would be better and quicker for getting around in.

The GT way well be better but I disagree that it would ever be quicker

Oh and I do appologise obviously not being present I can not possibly say the event didn't happen, I would however suggest that it was not indicative of the relative performance of the 2 vehicles.

And no I only have PHASE I+ installed and my opinion was based on my own experience vs. GT's on the street.

Sorry if I came off a little harsh I just started back on nightshift again

Cheers

I've got a Mate with a EB GT who might be interested :spoton:  :spit:  :spit:

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I think my car would be worth a little more than that.

If you're interested, Im sure your 'bob the builder Perofmance' mods would have already lowered the resale of your car enough to qualify for an EB GT swap. :spit:

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I think you'll find that a 2004 model with WARRANTY wil sell for more than a 2003 T with no warranty

Time sheet V dyno sheet

2 steps ahead :msm:

Anyway back on topic

CYA JEFF :spoton:

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well you must have a really good dealer to say you will have warranty after having a edit installed. Can't the dealer just plug something into your computer to see if anything such as your boost has been altered in the past??

I know that when my auto gave way one week after my phase II kit was installed the bastards put their hands in the air and told me I wasn't covered...

HAHA. Or maybe the phase II had a BIG stereo in the boot, like 4 12" subs and amps, oh and 2 extra spare tyres in there.

I am not a car expert but I cant see how all things being equal that a stock GT could beat a phase II t.

Arguements aside, I would go and test drive both the cars and know the difference in feel (try ignore the power). The GT/GTP is a very different experience the main point being the weight. Feels like the road is being steamrolled under you.

Personally if I could afford a GT/GTP I wouldnt buy one id spend the extra on modding a T because in the end you have a quicker car and somthing of a hobby because youve researched and modded it. Not everyones cup of t though ;) *lame*

No need to apologise...

If you read what I said..I mentioned in one area namely on kick downs from about 80km to 180Km + was the GT was slightly ahead about a car length (nothing to reallly brag about)...I didn't imply it was quicker than the phase 2 in all areas...

Also you can't assume the GT would never ever be quicker than a phase II....

Hi all,

Haven't been on the site for a couple of months but, I still see a simple question or comment can digress into bickering amongst each other onto a totally different topic. Good stuff!!

I have recently replaced my XR6 T with a demo GT-P.

Just got back from a driving holiday to the Gold Coast from Victoria. All I can say is I now understand why the GT stands for Grand Tourer! It was simply fabulous. Nothing beats the look of the bonnet bulge when you're behind the steering wheel along with the throaty bellow when you put the foot down to pass someone. Even with the missus complaining about accelerating real hard to get around a car, I still reckon the sound of the exhaust overides being yelled at!! Just out of interest, I averaged 11.9 L/ 100KM for the entire trip. Just a little more than the turbo.

What really amazed me were the number of hoons who would sidle up or roar up beside you. I even had a dirty old Merc 4WD ML500 try to drag me at the lights. At the next set of lights an EB Ford taxi dragged him off!! It was like seeing it was a GT everyone thought I was fair game. 40 year old with wife and two kids in the back. I must look like a real hoon.

Whilst I loved the XR6T and it was a lot of fun to drive, there was always the feeling that there was something missing. Prior to the XR6T, I had a VX SS but, the XR6T ate it for breakfast. Whilst the XR6T was a good car, it never really grabbed me. I dunno, maybe its just psychological but it was like it didn't have a personality.

The real thing I have found is that ithe GT-P feels much more solid (heavy) and stable on the road, the Brembos pull like a 13 year old and the looks it attracts. The only mod I've done is added some series II stripes to the bonnet bulge (bought them off a signwriter for $60 fitted).

For the sake of the extra bucks (I saved heaps buying a demo) you can't go past the GT.

Sorry about rambling on a bit, but I've often tried to put into words my thoughts on the XR6T but have always struggled.

what a load of crap that a GT could even think of mixing with a phase 2 T.How do I know.Well I got one.Maybe the driver of the T missed a gear or something Hey!.Get off the weed man.It seems that REX drivers like spinning a few yarns. Its a little funny that Phase 2 T's running 12 sec 1/4 mile times and 110 plus mph could just get beat by a (lucky to be high 13 sec GT) with like 100 less NM.Dont think so.

Can't resist this, but your phase 2 is no match for my rex. You need Phase 3 to keep up. Careful not to generalise,as there are some quick rexes around.
