Factory Blow Off Valve

I was in the mood for a little bit of "fiddling". So I thought id play with the BOV. When I had a closer look at the factory set up, I found that the valve was installed the wrong way around.

ie; the outlet from next to the TB was going into the BOV recirc port. And the BOV inlet Port was plumbed into the Turbo intake tract. Very strange..... PPL check to see if urs are the same. If so its wrong and the BOV isnt doing anything.

Anyways after that I swapped the BOV around, and left the recirc pipe off, so it vented to atmoshere. Produced a loud pppssshhhhhhh...... sound, as I expected. To much wank factor though - some might call it "Ricey" :ermm:

So then went back home and removed the BOV altogether, this makes the "kookaburra laughing" noise of the compressor stalling. Or turbo reversion. I love this noise, sounds more like an angry car, rather than a 4 banger rice burner.

Cheers Guys. Alsways gotta have some fun. :ermm:

l've heard this will damage your turbo :spoton:

If you remove the plumb-back hose it allows a path for unfiltered air to enter the turbo and therefore not passing the air flow meter. This will create all sorts of problems as the computer will think a certain amount of air is entering the engine when actually more is. Dunno about how much damage it will cause, unless something gets sucked into the turbo...

If you remove it altogether you will be venting pressure straight out the IC piping which is bad as it means less boost, and if you block it off you create a problem with back pressure into the turbo causing it to rapidly slow down and possibly even spin backwards. :spoton:

I did notice this strange setup for the BOV on mine too, but I thought I was just looking at it wrong. It still works correctly as the pressure is supplied by the manifold on the small tube at the top of the BOV, but I'll have a look into mine to see what the go is. :spoton:

The XR6T does not have an air flow meter, so there is no problem with the air being dumped outside of the system. It works from it's MAP sensor.

If it is removed and both pipes are blocked off, the only problem is as you stated about the back pressure against the turbo when the throttle is closed ! If they are left open of course there is the unfiltered air issue, but they were blocked off if you read the bit about the kookaburra noise (Wouldn't get the backpressure if they were open) If people want this noise, and are willing to have the increased wear/risk of failure then go for it ! I ran mine that way for a week or so, but did not like the extra niose, so have it plumbed back in, but with increased boost, and shorter piping, I get the whoosh sound pretty loud ! I'd rather have no noises, but can't have everything !

Fair enough, I havent investigated enough into my airbox to see whether it's metered or not. Should make it cheaper to put CAI on then :spoton:

Exactly.......

Means the plumbing changes are able to be done whenever you want, with no stupid restriction MAF to be left in the system !

Be careful about what you do, I ran into overboost, and limp mode once I put in the CAI and cooler with plumbing etc..

Its meant to be on backwards, therefore its actually on the correct way!!!

I wouldnt be mucking around with it at all as it will stuff up the map sensers ive been told. even with the after market BOV, air is still vetned back through whateva pipe so as to not stuff up the map settings.

So dont everyone go turning their BOV round the other way, as it is actaully suppose to work how it is installed (backwrds)
