Has any other Ford forum bagged the absolute :spoton: out of the Typhoon other than (or like) this one??

Surely someone from FPV will be seeing this?

I was actually going to buy a nice black F6 but won't be now.

For the number of phoon baggers there are on this forum there was an equal amount of people who bashed motor and wheels mags when they first came out and posted the original times for the phoon a few months back.

Ford can't hide from the truth and perhaps some sentiments are fueled by fords consistance back seat stance to HSV on the performance car front in Australia.

Still, as its modelled on the T, the Phoon is a good car for people wanting the FPV namesake and the potential that lies within the car when modding. It would appear that purchasers of the phoon would be missing their call if they didn't tinker with the car after purchasing it.

Its a car built to a price. By using the stock 6 injectors Ford saved a bundle on emissions testing and engineering dollars required to get it to pass the emissions test again.

Is it just me? or does the above make no sense at all?

The Typhoon engine is physically different from the XR6T engine, makes more power than the XR6T engine, and makes more torque than the XR6T engine - why? because in simplistic terms it runs a different amount of boost to the XR6T engine, thus different fuelling requirements. From reading your post, what you are trying to say is that just because the same fuel injectors as the XR6T are used in the Typhoon, that it doesnt need to be emissions tested again.... I don't think so...

The bottom line here is that the engine mapping of the Typhoon is different to that of the XR6T, thus it would most CERTAINLY have to undergo emissions testing.

Yet APS have done this with their Phase kits. Surely Ford is bigger than APS...

I think it's more a factor of what the cars can take at maximum stress as this is the guideline that would be used when developing cars. If the up the power too much it may result in too many warranty claims which eliminates any profit from making the car in the first place.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Or more importantly, more complaints inside the actual warranty period, that's what ford will want to avoid.

I don’t think so personally.

The engine in its current Form has very few warranty issues from what I can see and the new F6 has the better rods and Springs which were thought to be the only week link so I’d say the engine side is not an issue.

Driveline now has a 6 speed so the gearbox should be Ok as with the twin clutch and that only leaves the dreaded DIFF!!!!!!!!!!

Then again from what I can ascertain the driveline clunk is only a problem on sedans with IRS??? and it’s more an annoying problem than an actual mechanical failure problem. Still an across the board problem!

As for the emissions?????????????? Well stuff me gently ….. They could bang bigger injectors in the F6 and it would cost them next to nothing, as the Buy price for Ford between the two sizes would be minimal. That with the Twin Variable camshaft timing it would take 10 mins to test and pass as its far more advanced than any other engine made in Australia.

In fact I say Ford have tested the F6 with bigger injector and would already know all the specifications and engine output results while doing the R & D.

They would have cranked this engine up to at least 350Fwkw’s and hammered it for hours, days, weeks, months even then de-rated it to fit into production vehicles.

The engine would have at least a 30% ~40% "Safe" margin to enable them to warrant the vehicle etc. No manufacturer is mad enough to sell a vehicle that is not de-tuned to ensure longevity. Not to do that would be industrial suicide.

I have yet to see any EDIT results or testing on any F6 to date ….. Interesting that in it self I think!!!!!!!!!!

Where is Martin aka SteetTuner hiding ?

Interesting points, but lets be rational here. If APS can meet all legal requirements on tweaked XR6T's, and the F6 is really just a tweaked XR6T, then surely Ford can absorb the costs even more easily. :spoton:

In short, I dont believe emissions requirements to be the issue. The F6 is sub-optimally tuned with standard injectors for marketing and warranty reasons. I agree with Zap's theory that the F6 is intentionally dumbed down so that frustrated owners modify it, only for Ford/FPV to decline their driveline warranty. :w00t2:

Safe and happy driving...Dr Z. :spoton:

You're really on the case DrZ and I can understand why.Ford/FPV keep letting the faithful down and are not prepared to set any new benchmarks.Monaro LS2 13.1 over 400m with full factory warranty........So my question is:

If Expensive Daewoo can put 300+ kw (and whatever gi-normous torque the LS2 makes ,not sure if its more than F6 but their car is lighter so drive train stress should'nt be too dissimilar) through the basically same gearboxes/trans and diffs that Ford use:

Why can't/won't Ford?

Exactly the enemy does it, the F6 is so utterly ordinary in the performance side of things how dare they charge an extra 13k odd ... for it ?!?!?

The GT style bumpers look nice but hey so does the C2R DJR kit ... :spoton: Very disappointing Ford, next time can you try to get it close to right!?!?!

A shattered Ford supporter :sofa:

Cheers, Jason.

I just bought this issue and read it. The editorial and the article in the first few pages about the clutch issue and PCOTY sure hammered the typhoon good. It was pretty piss weak of ford to blame Motor through the media and a stupid thing to do IMO which probably resulted in such a large piece in the magazine. Bad PR for Ford.

Anyway the Phoon got hammered in the comparison with the EVO and Clubby. Its merits that they mentioned were those that apply to the XR6T and even the XT in terms of handling and chassis performance. Makes me wonder about the longevity of the 4lt engine given that ford have been so restrictive with the boost in the car. Its window for performance is very narrow which results in a less enjoyable driving experience. Perhaps ford should have only chucked 8psi into it and kept it across the rev range instead of dropping off so much. Edit has shown this is possible with the standard injectors.

They also mentioned that the T is some 13k cheaper thant the phoon and it might pay for some people to consider a T and phase 2 kit instead.

You could spend another 4K on top of the 58K+ dealer to get 300rwkw with a phase Kit for the Phoon, which some people have done and are very happy with, but you'd still be 13k out of pocket compared to a T with similar power and phase 2.

Having said this, I think that the phoon is a good car being modelled on the T and has potential like the T when modded. Im sure people who have it and a phase kit are very happy.

Pretty harsh examination of FPV's new car methinks.... :spoton:
