I picked up my Typhoon on Wednesday and I couldn't be happier.  In reading some of the posts this week I was beginning to believe I had made a mistake. I considered upgrading to a MK11 from my XR6T series1. I drove both back to back along the same roads and even my wife, who had her heart set on a BMW330 said the Typhoon was awesome.

Congratulations FPV, you deserve every acclaim. Thsi is going to sting but I'm going to say it anyway. If an XR6T is a 7/10, the Typhoon is a 9.5/10. That simple!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I picked Unspoken up on Friday. Since then, I haven't had a good opportunity to give her a proper drive (600km on the Hume isn't anything exciting) but I do have some initial impressions:

Exterior:

The pre-delivery (after taking an aeon to happen) was immaculate. Every panel is straight, door seals and gaps are even, paintwork unblemished. Not even polish swirl marks. A very distinguished colour, and so far proving hard to keep clean, but that's probably because I haven't washed it yet :w00t2:

Interior:

Again, immaculate. No leather, because I personally think the fabric they used is superbly comfortable. The steering wheel is really, really chunky, and with three definite hand positions, it's a must have. Other than that, I think everyone has experienced the premium interior and likes it.

Gearbox:

Still very toit (what do you expect with only 1000km on the clock?) and with the odd rattle at low rpm. Long shift throws, but that's good because it's suited to double-clutching. First gear is taller than a giraffe on stilts, but it makes it sound tuff when you have to rev up and ease it off the line under normal driving conditions. My only other complaint is that it's a tad unforgiving - if you don't nail the change, then it'll let you know by clunking. I wouldn't expect any less from a "high performance" gearbox though!

It's such a big gearbox that I haven't been over 5k in 3nd (because that's about 130km/h) and I've yet to hear the change alarm in anything but 1st.

Drivetrain:

Factory optioned diff-whine in 6th at 110km/h. That's ok, it just makes me cruise in 5th and have all that power on tap (5th at 110 is about 2400rpm, so just on the edge of being on-boost :D)

Engine:

Yum. Suitable whoosh-powah. I haven't driven an XR6T that much, but I'd say they're fairly comparable - I'd still have to give the edge to the F6 though (even if just to save face ) Give me a bit more time on this one, and I'll let you know.

Exhaust:

Distinguished note, and burble on the deceleration at 2000-1500rpm that makes me want to cream my pants. It's made me question wether or not the Herrod quad is a necessity after all.

I think the best description of the F6 Typhoon is the larrakin son of a gentleman. When it's being well-behaved, it is a truly sophisticated, smart-looking and immaculately-presented young man, with obvious good breeding. After hours, it's a bit of an animal and will knuckle down with the best of them.

My rating?

8.5/10

I'm looking forward to a few years of good motoring out of my new baby.
