The engine bay stays quite clean - just wipe it over with a damp cloth every second wash of the car. The only part that needs washing is in front of the leading weather strip on the bonnet - you will get dust and bugs along the front under the leading section of the bonnet area. This is above your radiator support panel/bonnet lock region. Also remember to clean the underside of the bonnet all the way around the outer edge - same with boot lid - this makes a big difference over time as it stops the staining of the paint on the underside of those parts.

guys I work in pre delivery for Expensive Daewoo and subaru and when the detailers give them a hit they open the engine bay.... and with the pressure cleaners they clean them drenching the engine bay with water.

so far no damage and they have been doin it for years.

as long as u cover the imoboliser and alarm u should be ok.

wheeel, I think an engine bay is a thing of beauty.... so

I polish mine on the XW and the Mini, so when I pick up my XR6, I'll be doing the same, I asked for the engine bay to be detailed the same as the body paint. I have me own chamoise, (chammy or however you spell it) that I use for the engine bays. I clean watermarks off all hosing, and polish that which is shiny, and that which isn't shiny, I make shiny.

Yeah, mine did same.... supposedly fixed at first service.

Ford is aware of blemish on casting of pulley(s) and this problem should be fixed at first service.

When I booked my car in and mentioned it to the service manager, he assured me they would replace the faulty pulley and they would replace the belt!

When I picked the car up, I was told they did not need to replace the pulley or belt, as I had only done 1900 km, and they had filed the blemish off the pulley.

I'll keep an eye on the wear, and if it continues I'll be demanding a new belt!

You know, what really irks me though, is that the service personell don't seem to be as aware of problem issues.

I love this site..... At least I can get reliable and accurate info quickly, and have a good laugh at some of the banter that gets thrown around.

Keep up the GOOD work, everyone!

I had the same rubber on the front of the engine etc from the belt.

It stops doing it after about 1000kms when the belt beds in.

What I have noticed on every BA older than about 3 months is the power steering pulley hub and one other pulley hub (can't remember which) have surface rust forming on them, I have seen this on nearly all cars, it wasn't there when the car was new.

I just think it looks a bit average on a new car.
