We have a TS50 that has an auto box with tiptronic controls on the steering wheel.

l love manuals, and when we bought the car l thought the tiptronic would be a good compromise with my wife, who preffered an auto (at the time) l guess for the first week it was ok, but l soon stopped using it and hankered for a manual. For me, there is no substitue.

The manual may be no quicker than the auto (not the reason l want it) and it may be more limited in torque rating (wont be modding the car so doenst matter) but its just more fun to drive. You actually drive the car.

It all comes down to personal preference, but l dont think a tiptronic box is a good substitute if you are considering or generally prefer a manaul IMHO.

When we decided to go for an XR6T my wife agreed to a manual, and boy am l glad.

Cheers Simon

I have spoken to several different Ford people and no one can give me a torque rating for the 5 speed manual and/or the 4 speed auto. This is important to me because I plan on modifying the car, and want the strongest box.

Dug up an old thread here, but couldn't find an answer>

Does anyone know the manufacturer's torque rating for the auto in the BA XR6T

Manual is rated at 450Nm, but what rating for the auto?

thanx in advance

I had an auto auxr8 so I got the auto baxr6t and am I glad I did.

the sss change is like having a manual but with out all the work.

it is nothing like the old triptronic.

you actually get the best of both worlds and don't have to replace the clutch if you get to energenic.

I haven't had mine on the track yet (400 mtr) but will post a time card when I do in the next couple of weeks.

The auto is very good especially if you want to play around with the engine, I had a very good auto transmissions tweaker take a look at my SSS the other day and he said it is a very good auto and for a few dollars he could make change harder and quicker than the C4 in my XY, a very frightening thought but one that I am considering.

If any of you guys stuff the auto up I was quoted $1700 for a total rebuild, which is not to bad considering my tiptronic in my BMW went it cost $4500.

had my auto tweaked a couple of weeks back ... struth ... unbelievable ... earnt me atleast a sec on the 1/4 ... atleast .... a little clunky at car park speed ... but smooth at silk flat out :)

had it done for about $500 ... and yeah ... about $2k to rebuild and strengthen the original box ... they guessed the original box would be good for 500-550Nm ...

who cares ... got no warranty now anyway ;)

Yes it does break like a manual box. I was driving a Fairmont Ghia the other day and tried it.....it works great. The only gripe is that there is no red line on the taco. Other than that best of both worlds with no clutch. :D

I believe the reason there is no redline on the tacho is that the engine management program varies the rev limit slightly, according to conditions.

From what I inderstand is the Redline is about 5850rpm in first and 6000 in all other gears.
