Yeah, I know that....but I just have no idea about the basics of how to apply them to a digital camera when important photos have been deleted before they can be downloaded to a computer.  I really didn't think it was a possibility. I'd be rapt if anyone could point me in the right direction cos I reckon this could be very useful.

Zeke,

Google is your friend.... :w00t2:

Do a search for "recover compactflash" and you'll see a number of software products available.

As for moi, all I got to say is that I love LINUX! :w00t2:

Channel 9 may have the rights to any pics (still or video) but if there are no signs up banning photography for private purposes and cameras are allowed into the ground freely then there shouldn't be a problem with Phil (or anyone else) taking a few snaps for themselves. It shouldn't matter what sort of camera he had, whether it was worth $20 or $20,000, that's totally up to Phil how much he chooses to spend on camera equipment.

Definitely write a letter to the cricket mob expressing your "strong displeasure" and ask for clarification of the photography rule. Let them explain themselves before you go to the media with it, I would only do that if the answer you receive back (if you get one) is unsatisfactory.

I doubt very much it would be worth getting involved in legal action as the expense of this would far outweigh any loss incurred (especially as you aren't a commercial photographer so it's not like loss of income).

Pretty much hits the nail right on the head, Ross. :w00t2:

For example, I'd be more than happy to sign a "Memorandum of Understanding" drawn up by CA that legally states that I a NOT a professional photographer and that I will NEVER use my cricket photos for commercial purposes without the prior written consent of CA. If I do breach said conditions, then CA can go after me with all guns blazing.

As for going straight to the letter writing stage, I'd only do that if I Cricket Australia "ummm'd and arrr'd" with me on the phone. Much better to talk to someone first and ask for written clarification. Tis much more civilised that way.... :D

Look at this way... I pay enough tax as it is to the "Johnny & Costello Show". Turning into a pro photo jock would give my accountant nightmares.... :w00t2:

Once in a while, it's good to see commonsense prevail....

I just received my reply from Cricket Australia and it sounds like they got beseiged with complaints about this issue. As a result, CA have backed down and will allow any ticket holder to bring whatever camera gear they choose to the cricket. Venue staff may approach patrons to verify that they are not professional photographers and remind you that legal action will be brought if you are there for commercial purposes.

So, I can now happily snap away and flash my business card if anyone taps me on the shoulder again. Pleased with the outcome, especially when CA did the right thing in reviewing their processes without the need for lawyers. :censored:

Have to wait until next summer now to test this new ruling out.
