I am not sure on how much they are there. But I really like the Bridgestone S03's a real good high performance all season tyre. Good in the dry and wet. If you are looking for something more agressive like the Yoko AVS then may I also suggest the Bridgestone RE070's also. They are VERY sticky when warm and still offer good performance when wet.

I have found the Dunlop SP3000A will tramline around the city.. Performs OK on open road, but as I am coming due for a set I am following this thread with interest..

I would have to agree though..

Tyres - "you get what you pay for"

Has anyone tried perelli's.. I know they are a soft compound but had a great set on my BA fairmont that I got 26,000 out of and stuck like the proverbial....

I've got 245/40r18 Yokahama AVS Sport.  $515 each.

Do you still come with the " warm up tyre approx 50km before doing performance driving" printed on the side walls

No words to that effect on the tyres, although, they do have a prominant increase in performance once you cycle some temperature through them. This is most noticable in winter. Cold morning/night, low road temperature, cold tyres, minimal grip. 2km down the road and you get a big present, open it up and its a bag full of grip.

It's no where near as bad as slicks, but you can definitely notice it. :glad::spoton::glad:

This is good for all of us on deciding what tyre to buy next

Its good to hear about the cheaper tyres and the expensive tyres with handling and life :glad:

Well, I think that Mrs z and I have had more tyres on our two BA Falcons per Km travelled than most.

Hers has done 30,000k and mine 16,000k. between us the sets of tyres (with subjective impressions) are:

1. Dunlop 3000A - a reasonable tyre all-round performance wise, but unacceptable quality-wise. Would benefit from being manufactured round for a start.

2. Michelin Preceda - very quiet, high comfort factor. Very good grip in the dry and good "feel". Wet grip seems reasonable.

3. Dunlop Lemans 602 - Good quietness and comfort. Very ordinary grip under all circumstances. All 4 worn out at 15,000k of driving like a girl. (Mrs z's car)

4. Yokohama ES100. The noisiest tyres I have ever experienced! Thought a transmission bearing or diff was on the way out! Ford service and BJ tyre guys were also fooled. Excellent grip and feel, but 2 worn out and 2 well on the way at 12,000k (again on the little old lady's car).

5. Yokohama C-drive. Quiet, round and quite pleasant to drive on. Grip seems OK so far. Will monitor wear closely!

We have also had recent experience with Michelin Pilot Premacy (Noisy, but very long lasting with good grip in the dry. Possibly a bit ordinary in the wet) and Pirelli A6000 (very quiet and comfortable, with good road feel and grip, but only average wear). These were on our previous cars and zeke jr's car.

All tyres are a compromise, but I would feel reasonably comfortable about selecting that compromise from the Michelin or Pirelli ranges. It really hurts to say this, but I will not now accept Australian-made tyres on any car and this comes from bitter experience over more than 20 years.

I'm running Hankook Ventus sport k104's .

Fairly quiet , and sticky . Great tyre .

I've got these too. I haven't really compared them with anything else, but I think they're pretty good. They get good reviews too. I've got 245/40/18 which were $245. 17's would be cheaper still.

You'll never catch me forking out $500 per tyre when $245 tyres are just as good!

I have never, I repeat NEVER had my Dunlop's let me down in any situation, from W10's to FM 901's and also OE 245/17/45's on AU II XR8 Ute SP9000's, and OE 245/18/40's on current ride(although I havent really had the chance to push these ones yet)

I still run 235/16/50's FM 901's on the good lady wifes car, and as much as the 4.0lt EF Gli can crank tham up in a straight line, the lateral grip and braking, wet or dry, is superb.

These same rims and tyres I ran on my XH ute, and on the odd occasion stood up to 200kmr cornering with out a hint of letting go, it would take alot to convince me that anything else stacks up, and that's irrelevant of price.

Just my experiances! :spoton:
