I work for the anz bank, and we are collecting money on behalf of World Vision. The response by customers has been amazing, every second customer has donated money for the appeal. The smallest donation has been $50 the highest was $500 and I was one of five tellers working in the last two days. In the twelve years I have worked in the bank, we have had many appeals, but I have never seen such generosity as this one. I am totally amazed by the wonderful people of Australia and their instant response to a tragedy.

SWMBO, thanks for that great news. I suspect we now have a humungous organisational nightmare on the way...

The bank is also matching dollar for dollar any donation that staff members make.

From the Australian Red Cross website:

"Thanks to your generosity, Australian Red Cross has so far raised more than $14 million in pledges for those affected by the devastating Asian earthquake and subsequent tsunamis."

The power of Mother Nature is mind boggling, kind of makes most of our human efforts seem so puny.

Death toll now in excess of 125,000, with possiblity of reaching 200,000!!!!

The effects of the tsunami were felt here in WA, as far South as Dunsborough where a family was dragged out into Eagle Bay by tide surges and crayfishing boats were snapped off their moorings in Geraldton, again by tide surges.

Scary stuff!!
