Hi everyone

Well - I'm going to Motorplex (Perth) on Wednesday night to run my T down the quarter for its and my first time. Its a stock 03 manual other than K&N filter and 2nd CAI installed the morning before. OE Dunlop tyres. I was wondering if anyone with experience can give me advice on the following:

1) Launch Revs. How do I not bog down and maximise traction? From street driving I'm assuming I drop or slip the clutch at about 3000rpm?

2) Traction Conbtrol off or on?

3) Shift Points. I'm guessing I'll shift at about 5500 rpm rather than 5900 or 6000 as power seems to drop off anyway after 5500.

4)Tyre Pressures. I'm currently running max psi as per placard (35 psi front, 39 psi rear). Should I drop these for a quicker launch?

Any advice or info on your experiences is welcome. My goal is to at least crack 100mph at the end of the quarter on the first run and ideally I'd like to go 13.999 but that might be asking a bit much from a stock T and 1/4 mile virgin.

Will post my results after Wednesday.

Thanks

Mark

dw....every car and track prep is different sounds like a good place to start but dont slipit to much! youll feel it and get the hang of it quick enough!

2) Traction Conbtrol off or on?

dw..... off

3) Shift Points. I'm guessing I'll shift at about 5500 rpm rather than 5900 or 6000 as power seems to drop off anyway after 5500.

dw.... sounds good once again youll feel it out

4)Tyre Pressures. I'm currently running max psi as per placard (35 psi front, 39 psi rear). Should I drop these for a quicker launch?

dw.... youll probibly bog it down the first few times so leave them till you get the hang of the launching then you can drop them as far as you like id say 25 psi rear front can stay the same

im sure there will be others to make suggestions just add all the info up andf make an educated decition from there!

Good luck mate. I can't really offer any advice apart from keeping your fingers crossed that your clutch doesn't slip. The first and only time that I tried the 1/4 my clutch slipped in 1st and 2nd gear and I managed a 14.5 at 159km/h. Didn't bother running again cause I couldn't stand the smell in the car from the clutch.

Go & do some practice launches on a back street where there is no traffic, you'll get the feel of the car the more you launch!

I have an auto so I can't tell you about what revs to build up to, but anything over 2000 rpm will be good. Just as long as it is in boost when you leave!

I don't even look at the dash, I just hear & feel the motor.

Works for me.

Just remember that the track will be a lot stickier than the street so you will have to launch at a higher rpm or you will bog down. Take some air out of the rears as well.

Thanks guys

Good advice - keep it coming. Hopefully my clutch won't slip - it doesn't when I belt a 0-100 on a freeway on-ramp.

Dont look at the green light, react to the last yellow light if you want better reaction times.

I am going to do my first run in the next few months, I think you should go down the drags and watch others do it first. then have some practice runs in back streets like others have said.

there is really nothing to it, the most important part is the launch, you dont even need to go at the green light if you dont want to, one maybe 2 runs should be enough to figure out launch rpm if your in a manual, then you should be right.
