my dealer says he will get the car done with there 'paint protection' and the 'leather protection' when it arrives later in the month. now my question, yes a freeby is a freeby, but are they worth it. Does it mean if I get paint protection I can throw my meguairs gold class polish out?...how do I look after the paint protection?...there was another post where the protection didnt seem to do much, so just wondering before I consent to anything free or not!...

My Car has paint protection and it never needs polishing. There is no need to polish your car. My paintwork is still perfect. You must only wash your car and that's it, no futher special handling. The manufacturer's warrenty on the paint proctection advises you to keep your car clean or the warrenty may become void. The only pain of paint proction is every year my car's paint work is inspected for any fading etc...if the paint work starts looking faulty a respray by them is guaranteed (???? ).

My car is only 15months old...was it worth it, YES so far so good. :) By the way mine cost about $700. If I was you I would take up the oportunity to do it.

Also my interior is scotch guarded, that comes in handy when your coke decides it needs to escape real quick.LOL ( I am still cleaning it off )

Cheers

Antoinette :innocent:

Never knock back a freebie, if you dont want it ask your dealer if i can have it!

  • 1) a waste of time, money, effort
    2) no noticeable benefit
    3) provide some benefit

Yes to all of the above, if you polish it there will be no noticeable benefit but it will provide some added benefit although it would be a waste of time, money, effort as it's already protected. :D

I only use the maguires Quick Detailer... Polishing is pointless...... It is polished for life  The Paint will never fade and it also is supposed to help deflect stone chips <_< . You only wash the car with a quality brand wash. OH AND NO BLASTING your CAR AT CAR LOVERS...... BIG NO NO ( I have done it, just try and not stand to close, cause u will blast the coating off)

Cheers

MISSXR or ( MY SS -:greyscare: PS. I am so glad people remember my car for that LOL :hammerhead: )

Pity I didnt read this months ago, this resulted in paint flaking from my bonnet on my AU2 and also on the plastic strip at front of bonnet above grille.

The quick detailer is fantastic as a twice a week wipe over between washes. I have paint protection and am pleased with the results.

This is really interesting. My 1st new car (Nissan Patrol) I went for the paint/seat protection. My second new car (the wife's) we got none of the above.

I need to do a bit of research on this but, looking at the NRMA buyers guide, there is a handy little table of optional extras.

The table splits them into,

Worth Serious Consideration

Nice to have but not necessary

Forget it

Rust & Paint protection were the only things under 'Forget It'.

http://www.mynrma.com.au/motoring/cars/buy..._car/hand.shtml

I was a little suspicious when every time I was going to buy a car, the salesman who I was dealing with would send over the 'Options Girl'. ALWAYS a cute little number in a short skirt who would look deep into your eyes and whisper, 'You need protection'.

At which we all swallow hard and sign, right?

Seriously, I have seen NO independant data/review on aftermarket protection treatments. The above NRMA link is the only reference I have seen.

Does anyone have some hard data on this?

Mac Dude .... food for thought ....

the NRMA article was talking about how to best spend your money ...

I've got paint protection ... it actually seems to be a layer of plastic ... unlike a few years ago it was impossible to tell ...

some pealed off the bonnet for what ever reason and the dealer re-did the bonnet and front quarters ...

living in the bush under the trees and we argue for the under cover parking ... 5year warranty on as new paint work ...

a few hundred bucks is cheaper than a carport

as for hard facts ... like all things ... smoke and mirrors

Yor are right BLKXRT, the NRMA was talking about how to best spend your money, but 'Forget IT', seems a pretty strong indication. And my previous experience was years ago. I would just love one of the motor mags/sites to do a review rather than rely on what the dudes that make the stuff say.

Kind of like me learning about the XR6 here rather than from a ford dealer :)

This place is warts and all...
