Although they timed the Stang in the high 13 ¼ range and a 0-60 in 5.1 it felt no where near that quick

high 13's???? They wish!!!!

Nice Charger!!

Not a member of Mopar Market.com by any chance?

I used to have a 'Kim Baker' built 440 Wedge in a '69 Plymouth Fury Hardtop. Good for 420kW's at the rear wheels on a chassis dyno.

Steel crank, Six Pak rods, 10.5 to 1 comp with forged pistons, 906 heads, Edelbrok Torker2 single plane, 750 square bore, MOPAR twin point dist, 1 5/8 primaries into 3 inch collectors and twin 2.5 inch system with X pipe. The headers were pacemaker mandrels.

727 Torqueflite with 3500 stall and a 3.23 Sure Grip. 2 tonne car on street tyres running flat 13's by leaving it in Drive :)

Sold the beast about 12 mths ago :(

Yep I am...Sounds like a tough Fury...don't talk too loud...they'll all want one!!!!

Actually I joined this Forum to get the goss on the Typhoon and the GT-P..wanted to see how they went in the "real world"...don't trust factory "quoted" times...alhtough Ford are more conservative than the "Expensive Daewoo Special People"

What has really knocked me out is the incredible improvements that can be had through the aftermarket tuning "kits" with new cars....I mean low 12's is serious times on 17" street tyres.... :ermm:

Now I see the new Clubby is in the low 13's :(...so I'm onto my man in Adelaide about new heads, getting some headers, and we'll see how we go....got plenty of room for improvement b4 it becomes "unstreetable"...just a budget thing..... :w00t2:

Well I have no brand prefrence.

But how did the judges give the stang extra points for performance when it was .5 second slow over the Q???? the gearbox is the only way I can guess?

Hard to give an opinion without driving both. Just good to see an Aussie car make it into the states, like it or hate it!!

I actually meant to write 420 HP at the back wheels, not 420 KW. Sorry :spoton:

I cant beleive that I'm reading a posting that cotains content written by adults, that rates a car, any car as :pooh: , because its "gay".

For fcuks sake when a car built for 2005 and beyond comes out with friggin live axle, and they dare to call it a "Sports Car", only the Yanks would try and pull that sort of :pooh: .

One thing Ford has almost always had over GMH, post AU/VT, is that at the sporty end of the market, the Falcon has always handled better, due to far better IRS setup in both AU and now BA sedans, the Commode IRS is Genetically linked to my 1970 Datsun 1600!!! :spoton:

Sorry Plonky, the Australian "Tickford" Mustang was the second biggest mistake Ford made in my opinion, talk about pi55 money into the wind.

The first one of course, was to let Jac Nasser sign off the AU design :blush:

BINGO! Basicly what it comes down to is it wears are Ford badge which makes the Bogans happy. They hate the Commodore/Monaro and when the other side in the comparison is a Ford forget about anything logical from 99% of posters. I too agree that the Mustangs imported to Australia was a crap idea. Not to mension how badly overprcied there were. I bet Tickford had a huge laugh at all the people buying them. I know I did. Anyone that has half a clue and looks at a car for what it truely is, not the badge it wears sees the truth. I know the truth, theeone you obviously see it too. Too bad the bogans just cant see straight too because the day people start buying the better cars will make all car makers work harder at making a better car.

Live axle?

Explain to me what is fundamentaly wrong with the live axle. The Falcon utility uses a live axle with Watts link and apart from a firm ride on broken surfaces, it actualy handles rather well.

V8 Supercars need the live axle with Watts link due to the enormous horsepower they generate and they are cheap to produce, have enormous longevity and can be tuned effectively with a combination of springs, shocks and bars.

The SVT Cobra sold in Australia by Ford was not the standard Mustang GT sold in the States.

The Cobra has a fully independent rear suspension as well as the 4.6 quad cam Cobra motor.

The GT Mustang used a live axle and a 4.6 SOHC engine.

The Cobra may have 'only' produced 240kW but it only weighed arounf 1500kg+ and as such had a great power to weight ratio.

It is a very good, very powerful and great handling car.

The price in Australia was expensive but considering these cars are the only factory produced RHD Ford Mustangs in the world, the price of conversion was included in the retail price.

So who didn't like the Mustang.....the motoring press...that's who! Basically anything that is built in America has to be bad right?

I'm certainly not a 'bogan' as my previous cars included Mercedes E320, Alfa 147, Subaru WRX, Pulsar SSS, Nissan Patrol Ti, Plymouth Sport Fury, Falcon XR6 ute and currently a Ford Explorer.

The Mustang is a great car and Ford needed a 'hero' car at the time it was brought here. I'm thankful it was the SVT Cobra and not the cheap Mustang GT.

Now if Chrysler would only bring the Dodge HEMI Ram over here........
