Rev Limiter

Mine will hit the limiter anywhere between 5,800 & 6,200. It doesn't really seem to depend on conditions, as a romp through the gears will yield a different rev limiter value in 1st, 2nd & 3rd gear. Haven't hit the limiter in 4th....yet! (if it will, will they??) Really its a bit of a lottery, as to where the limiter will spoil the fun. :spoton:

I mean...The motor died..No more going..

I thought a six would rev harder.

It felt like it could go to 6500 easy..

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Whats the use of reving it that hard when you will just go slower?

You have cubes and turbo, not a rotary so you shouldnt be concerned about hgh revs especially when its past its peak at that stage.

large rotating mass.......

big stroke......

6000 aint that bad.

my 76 V12 daimler revs to 7000+

tiny little pistons and tiny little stroke

lacks the torque of T down low though.

Hmm...Never seen my T reach 6200.....

Never wanted it to.

But with the right crank, rods and pistons, 7500 can be easily achieved with this engine. Just a matter of money and balance.

Brian, just the thought of that gets me excited! What did you have to do to make sure the engine will handle it? Mind giving us an idea of $?

Wish you were coming to the end of 2004 QLD cruise - I'd love to go for a ride.

Nizpro rebuild the engines with rods/pistons suitable for high revs, and both my old and new engines are capable of higher revs. Motec controls the rev limit.

Although the forthcoming Edit will allow the rev limit to be changed, you are highly likely to destroy the motor if you increase the rev limit without changing the rods.

I've just had the reverse situation with my Sti, when going from 2L to 2.5L. Given that I've kept the stock Sti rods I've had to reduce the rev limit from 8000 revs to 7400 revs to protect the motor.

I'm not sure of the $cost for rods alone, as all my work was packaged.

After being used by high revving motors I've found the 5800 limit very hard to cope with. Remember that although the motor doesn't rev, it's design does produce good torque.

Brian I think any rev limit in YOUR car is going to be hard to cope with - after this new motor goes in you won't be able to change gears quickly enough! ... :kissmy:

Depending on what brand of rods are used about $4K is the figure I've heard. DucatiJB may be able to give you more info on brands. Then there are forged pistons to buy and h/d rod bolts. Wouldn't get much change from $10K I expect.
