15/40 although some say no sin for 5000 k's I never had an issue on my original and the rebiult motor using sin from brand new so I dont think it is an issue.

The issue I believe is that any lower than 10/40 is to low with the high temps these motors run.

If you're going to run a Penrite oil, Viper, just run a 15W40 Penrite mineral oil. I did for the first couple of services.

This is what I used for the first 3500kms, I think. EVERYDAY DRIVING 15W-40 - Penrite Oil

Hi guys!

With less then a month to go before getting my new GT335 from Darwin's dealership, I have a few questions about how the engine should be run in..

My 08 FG XR6T was an ex-demo, and I purchased it with 3000kay's on the clock, meaning I didn't have to worry too much about running it in (though, I drove it like a grandma for the first 4-5 months! It scared me putting the foot down on that beast!).

This time, the GT is coming straight out of the factory, having potentially no kilometers on the clock. I'm overly excited to fly up to Darwin with a relative and drive it back 1300km to my home town, but I'm a bit worried about how exactly working in the engine SHOULD work..

This is my plan:

- Fly up to Darwin Friday, pick up the car from dealership in the arvo and stay in Darwin for the night + Saturday. Drive the car around the city, stopping and going as recommended by some people to do with a new car.

- Drive back Sunday morning WITHOUT cruise control. Vary speeds from 110-130km/h, and give it a little juice when over taking. Consistent stops to let the engine cool now & then, and let the engine run on idle for at least 5-10mins every few hours.

Will this justify running in the engine properly? The other thought is to simply floor it right out of the dealership. There's mix thoughts from people I've spoken to about how to work in the engine - baby it, or floor it. I know some (if not all?) European performance cars are dyno'd before they leave the factory, running 3-4 runs; does this mean they're pretty much red lining it STRAIGHT out of the box?

Or, would it be better to simply get it freighted down? I'd love to drive it down, as I haven't done a road-trip for so many years, but if it means that the engine will see some wear & tear issues because of running it higher then 100km/h for 13-15 hours straight, it may be a better alternative?

This question applies for ANY car; I'm thinking there's no difference in running in a V8 S/C over an i6 Turbo, etc, so if anyone can benefit my knowledge of how to do this, I'd be very much appreciated!

Cheers (and expect a lot of photos of my white GT when it's here!)

Step 1, Pick it up, drive to a quiet spot, then drop a patch. Be sure to post the video.

Basically there ready to drive however you like. I doubt theyld be like the old 5.4s that would glaze the bores if they idled for 5mins.

Oh and new wheels asap.

Already run in by Ford, then its definately run in by the pre-delivery thrash around the block by the youngest worker in the shop, then you get the keys.

Grab the keys from Ford, warm it up whilst you look around it and admire, then drop 3rd down the street.

Can I get some genuine responses please? Hooning is fun and all, but not in a brand new $80k car.. I'll do that in a few months, and believe me, you guys will be the first to see the videos.. :)

Some feedback of the trip would be appreciated - is it OK to run the car for 13-15 hours straight over 100km/h?

Also, I bought the car from a good friend who recently switched to the FPV dealership in Darwin. He's an old mate that I've known for years, so I'm sure he'll look after it for me. They've already got a demo FPV GT 335 up there that I'm sure every Tom, Dick and Harry have driven; no need for mine to be sprinted around the block...

And yep, wheels have already been quoted at $500 each from the dealer lol.. 265/30/R19's to replace my 245's.. if I give them my 245's, it'll be $400 each.. Expensive, but I guess I need them - I might use the 245's for the drive back, and the 265's switched once the 1300kays are done.
