Also 10w40 should be low enough 5 is getting a bit low IMO. I agree with loading it up obviously just for a little bit not the whole time and then just keeping varying ya revs and don't labour the engine by being in too higher gear for the speeds. Also as said ditch the old fuel no harm in doing the filter, may or may not need it who knows. As for using a K&N oil filter, I haven't used them didn't know they made them. So are they expensive? A simple Ryco one would do the same job really.
Guest EGOXRT Guests Posted 09/03/10 05:23 AM Share Posted 09/03/10 05:23 AM If you idle it too long you will glaze the bores and screw the whole process. You need to get as much pressure as possible behind the rings to get them bedded ASAP. This doesn't mean huge revs, just load it up through the gears and keep an eye on the temp. Don't be afraid to get the revs up in the last 5 mins just don't sustain for too long. You will have a nicely bedded in motor as long as the clearances are spot good...lol Don't be tight and drain the oil and turf the filter as soon as you have done the above. Sorry I should have highlighted the "run at temp bit". Or worded it better. But I have no idea what normal running temp is on a tuned 6 is. And it's a new motor so you will want to look at it running for a while. How many more sleeps Matt. And while your there, check all the fluid points, including welsh plugs and pumps. Fitting ends. Sorry if I am stating the bleading obvious. On my bikes the fans cut in around 107c. And I usually wait till 91c before I ride them. Running temps usually around 97c. So...Drain the fuel. Add new fuel.Start her up, let her idle for a minute.Reverse out the driveway.Drive normal for the first Minutre or 500m till I get out of my little street, and then load her up, maybe 3/4 throtte up and down through the rev range (ZF 6 speed).Drive it at 3/4 throttle up and down through the rev range for 20 minutes, and then bring her home and drain the oil and change the filter. How do I drain the fuel? I'm gonna need a 50L drum cos she blew with a full tank. lol. Good for mower fuel. Also, my tunes areValet - up to 3000rpm330rwkw - 95 octane tune wife power delivery360rwkw - 98 Octane agressive power tuneWhich tune? I don't really know.Just thought about 500km would be around the mark. Just put a little stress on the motor, not much but vary the load on the bottom end and revs on the top. And let it idle for like twenty minutes before driving anywhere after a rebuild, or as long as it runs at temp. That's how I run my bikes in.If I did it at 25km which is all it would haveat best after twenty minutes, I would feel that I should do the next dump at 500km. Then every 6000 or 6 months. But Matt hey, I am no expert on it. I really am asking.20minute's FIRM...........
