There is a very good post by harasan regarding running in they do at Ford, a bit labourious but very good. I followed it for the first 300km, then to 1000k varied revs constantly, after that drove the hawk like I'd stole it! B) :D

Up to 11000km now and have not added a drop of oil since 7000km oil change. :pimp:

Thanks Guy's

Was thinking about changing the oil and filter at 3000 and maybe 7000, 15000 between changes seems a bit much, so thanks for the tip Mondie, I'll check out Harasan's thread too.

Cheers

My run in was:

For the first 3000kms, take it to the rev limiter in each and every gear with 1/2 throttle every couple of hours.

Oil change to Synthetic 0w40 at 3000kms (not my choice), slow down a bit with the rev limiter thing, do it once every day or so.

Oil change to mineral 15w40 at 10,000kms (again not my choice). Well and truley run in.

I've since found a dealer who changes my oil to what I actually ask for.

So now I use Synthetic 5w40.

I ran 197.5rwkw on a completely stock automatic car, whilst all other automatics got around the 180 - 185 mark on the day.

I also ran in my T using the method outlined by harasn. At times it was difficult to follow the procedure word for word but I followed reasonably closely. Most important thing is to vary the revs. Don't be afraid to give the odd full throttle acceleration as well.

The car definitely feels quick but I haven't put it on the dyno or compared it to another T although on the cruise to Kangaroo Valley I played a bit with a boosted T and seemed to keep up.

Cro, we'll have to line them up one day for interest's sake :)

When I first got my car, I planned to take it easy for the first 1500km to run it in. That lasted all of about 5 minutes. It was too hard to not put my foot down. I ended up just driving the car like I would normally (with a particularly heavy foot that is). I didn't drive it as hard as I drive it now, because I wasn't used to the car at the time. Varying the revs wasn't a problem because I live in the city and am constantly slowing down/speeding up for corners, traffic lights, etc.

16,000 km on the clock now and no problems at all with the engine. Runs like a dream. Haven't had it on a dyno, so I can't tell you what the power is like compared to other XR6T's. I didn't get the oil changed until the 15,000 service either.

I was wondering if someone could answer a little question ?

Do you need to run in your T's or are they ready to go ?

I have heard that Ford runs all engines for upto 5,000 klm and if holds up ok it goes into the car, otherwise it is scrapped.

But on the other hand I've been told that you need to run them in for the first thou klms.

Any thoughts, ideas...

Daniel.
