The guys on ls1.com tend to break their cars in by "driving it like you stole it" - like the article suggests.

It seems that the guys who do this have better engines, more power and less problems, than the guys who baby their engines at the start.

When my new SS arrives, I'll be giving it a hard time (within reason of course - only when it's warmed up). Don't trundle around in high gear/low speeds, give it plenty of revs, and you should end up with a good solid motor.

Ford recomends you do a search on running in here and youve got a weeks reading to do. its all been said,enjoy.

It's in the front of the cars manual.. Basically, they recommend taking it easy to about 1500km.. but I think that'll end up making a lazy car.

Hi All,

Well. I have a brand new Blueprint XR6T in the driveway :D

Being new to the forum these questions may have already been asked, so apologies if they have:

(1) I get conflicting advice on running in, some say drive as you would normally from day one, while the book says 1500 kms variable speed gently, and my own mind says 3000 kms before giving the pedal a serious tickle. Your Thoughts?

(2) How is the standard security on the XRT's?

I'm thinking of installing a kill switch somewhere but wondering if it's needed. Have any gone missing (when keys are not available)?

I have been driving my car normally since day one, but taking care not to go too hard.

As for security, the engine immobiliser is enough. If you dont have the key you cant start it. I'm sure someone will tell you otherwise but as a copper I can tell you that no cars get stolen where I live that have immobilisers fitted. There may well be some elaborate computer driven set up to somehow get the thing to start (plenty of urban myths about them!) but those sort of people would be looking at the $100K + cars.

Keep your keys safe and you'll be right (unless someone all up lifts it on a tow truck)

As VG said drive normal,but change the revs a bit ,e.g. dont do 60 km in the same gear for 15 minutes,go up and down the gears.

Forget cruise control is fitted for the first few thousand kms to avoid constant revs. Dont labour the engine. When we bought the GT, FPV recommended only revving to 4000rpm for the first 1500km, and to not be afraid to rev it, but do it on mild throttle. Stuck with this pretty much.

l would consider having the oil/filter changed at the 3000km service too.
