I went to my local dealer and got a $30 AUX 3.5mm stereo connector installed. I put my girlfriends iPod (gen3) in via a 2.5metre long 3.5mm male to male connector. I was about to purchace a mates iPod but as soon as I heard it connected it sounded shocking. It was much worse than CDs in the 6 stacker. Most noteworthty was that the bass was not as defined and as if some1 turned it down lots of notches. Maybe it was just the longish 3.5mm stereo cable?

Any Ideas?

Thanks, Veczar. :censored:

Maybe the way it's been wired champ. I did mine myself and run my ipod through it, and apart from having to put the volume up to about 15 as well as the ipod at full the sound quality is spot on.

Not my area of expertise, maybe one of the other boys could shed some light, not sure if the quality of the adaptor/wiring makes much difference. I did mine for approx $10, and 30 mins of my time.

I have similar issue with my aux connector (mine was fitted aftermarket by a forum member), but using Discman not iPod. You need to crank the volume right up to hear it and the quality of the sound is not as good as regular CDs. I thought the sound quality thing may of been because they were MP3s. I have heard of other people commenting previously on same issues.

I've noticed on my Ipod that the Bass is a little lacking, trying changing the EQ settings on the iPod, as this seems to through more bass into the system.

I also have to have the iPod volume up towards max to avoid having the car volume up too high, this introduces a bit of alternator whine btw.

I'm using my ipod through the casette adapter in my EL (and soon through the AUX adapter in my BA due Feb) by using a Belkin.com.au "Auto kit for iPod with dock connector", so it will work with a Gen 3.

It powers the ipod through the dock connector and gets audio as a line output from the dock. It has a built in pre-amp (so it won't work without power) with level control, and a 3.5mm socket for audio output.

It plugs into the cigarette lighter, and using a 3.5mm plug to 3.5mm male plug (easily made out of an old set of earphones) straight into the AUX input of the BA.

Unfortunatly they are around $80 but I have seen them cheaper. The pre-amp amplifies the line output of the ipod to a greater volume than the ipods headphone socket.

The biggest concern for me is that it is bright white and does stand out in the interior of the car, making it look unusual and advertises that you may have an ipod sitting in there. I will be looking into getting a 12v socket installed in the center console like the VY Late model camira I saw when they were released (Calais I think?) to keep the cord out of site when not in use, and run the audio lead under the console to come out next to the centre console.

Geez I yak on a lot....... I mean, this is my third post!

You do not neccessarily have to mount your AUX input under the tissue holder. Mine is located in the centre cosole, my next step is to run multiple connectors through the car for various applications. You can have one in the glovebox, backseat area, wherever you like really. :sleepystuff:
