Operation Of Power Windows

Hello

This is my first post (been lurking for a while though).

I have only had my XR6T for a little while and have only just noticed something regarding the operation of my power windows. They operate even when I do not have the key in the ignition. I first noticed it when my daughter accidently touched the switch after I had just taken the key out of the ignition. Yesterday I tested the operation by using the windows before inserting the key in the ignition after the car had been in the car park all day. Guess what, all the windows operate fully. Is this normal?

Thanks

Derek

Without rechecking the owner's manual, I seem to remember that they work for a specified time (? one hour) after the ignition has been switched off. Great idea.....I often had to turn the ignition back on in the Maxima just to close a window.

I don't think it is an hour that they work for though, more like 5 minutes. It is a good feature that you really notice when you get in a car that doesn't do it. You always have to turn it back on to put the windows up.

I think they also work for a while after unlocking the car.

Also the stereo works without the key in the ignition. I think it turns itself off after half an hour.

I think this is the way it works. To check you could :violin:

you guys are pretty much correct. when the vehicle is unlocked or ignition is switched on, windows become active. When ignition is turned off they stay active for timed period, a few minutes then deactivate. They also deactivate when the remote lock the doors.

will become active after remotes are unlocked.

if you leave your car sit & the windows switch off you can fire them up again by pressing the remote to unlock the doors even if they are already unlocked.

one final thing, when I lock my doors my windows all go up by them selves as part of an aftermarket mod I did. If anyone is interested all XRs can be done easily by me or most accessory installers/auto electricians

The windows will work for 1 hour after taking the key out the ignition, unless you open a door, in which case it is 1 minute from when you opened the door.

I would be interested in this mod if you could talk us through it, what bits do we need, where can we get 'em and where do we put 'em.

Thanks in advance
