We have the same law in NZ regarding motor bikes and you are right I dont know why they dont just do it with cars.

Also I agree with Vik. Driver training is very important. I am not sure weather some parents can be bothered training kids at all anymore.

Mind you would probably be better to get the pros to train them.

Young kids can afford to buy expensive cars now and they need to be trained earlier on how to handle them for there own safety.

Obviously you don't have, or haven't dealt with, teenage kids before.

You try telling what you said to a 17 year old and give him the keys of your XR6T. He'll go "ok", and 5 minutes later be sitting on full boost in the top of 3rd gear down a suburban road.

This is not all kids, but in my experience, too many young people think they are invincible, I did when I was young as well.

Give a kid a gt-r to play with and he will use it to its full extent. Ive lost friends in high powered cars and in $500 sh*tboxes doing the same things. It comes down to responsibilty and maturity.

If you read this thread you could be led to believe that the only bad drivers are P Platers - that is horsesh*t and you all know it. Daily I witness incredible acts of ingnorance, stupidity, selfishness and downright dangerous attitudes amongst the ADULT population not P Platers. it's no wonder that youngsters behave the way they do when one observes the example they are set. Witness the highly intelligent claims by select forum members as to the sustained speeds they can achieve on public roads, which then gains congratulatory comment from all and sundry including the "Moderators". Don't just talk the talk, walk the walk.

I put it to you that the 'problem' exends far beyond the boundaries of the novice - it is hard to soar with eagles when you are surrounded by turkeys.

Wanna go real fast ...............take it to the track . All legal, and on hand support should things go seriously wrong. The thing with Ts is that the power is so linear , you dont realise how fast you are going. Hence people call them slow , they aint

17 year olds have brains and have the ability to make decisions.

I did stupid things in my car (a 200sx) when I was 17 but I still had the common sense to know what is going overboard. I pushed it off the clock once on a highway with no one around but some people would do this in a school zone or wherever. I knew not to put other people at risk with my stupidity.

If the kid wants to drive like and idiot when he knows the risks than hes simply an idiot.

All to often it is the inerscent bystander , the family in the other vehicle that is taken out by idiots not just P platers how believe they are the gods gift to driving. I own a T and Superbike and yes I drive them quick from time to time, I'm not the best out there and I know that but I have worked my way up to these vehicles from low performance ones and glad I did. It really is a mental thing and as you all know the faster it goes the further your brain needs to be ahead of the car/bike. Kids have to learn to crawl before they walk and then to run and gain the required skills to do it. Same with cars and bikes , limiting the power to weight of bikes that learners can use has helped cut the toll as has having them do real driver training and you dont hear the motor cyclists complaining but actually supporting these laws. There will always be the ratbags out there but you still have to try and help the rest to stay alive.
