Tyres Replacment/recall?

A friend of mine who regularly goes "out the back" of my local ford dealership for work reasons, has recently told me they have a "very Large pile" of 235/17 dunlop tyres, all with around half tread, and all with cracks in th side wall and some with bulges in the tread.

Is he having a go at me, or is there a problem we should be looking out for that Ford may not be telling us about.

I tried to "get out the back", and wasnt allowed, I have asked him to take a couple of pic's with his camera phone if he can, and note tyres sizes, tread depth and problem, he said most had white marker pen on the side wall indicating a crack or bulge??

It may be worth having a good look at your tyres before you do any high speed work at a track day, drags, or for that matter a dyno run, incase they go bye bye in a big way.

Any info on this would be good, first I have heard, anyone else?

Its a fact carefull with that axe,its been on here some guys have had a problem

Mainly heard of the sidewalls with splits.

You wouldn't believe it !

Just found a crack right around the side wall of my rear right tyre, original 235/17 dunlops.

Can't see any chance of getting replacement under recall/warranty

I would have thought that FMC would be closely looking at this after the debacle with the firestone tyres on Explorers in the US.

Its a known prob so youll be right,theywill charge you for the rubber you have used,still worth it

The Dunnylop 18's aint much etter by the sound of it.

When I got toSydney with 14,000 on the clock they were stuffed, the wife would have driven 80% of miles locally and she's no hoon.

Could not find the original 18" Dunnylops in Sydney - anywhere ! Even tried Ford spare parts in desperation.

Was told by several dealers that short supply due to very rapid wear rate Hoons knocking them out in 5k plus and average 10-12 k's.

Stuff that at $550 a tyre !

The Hankook Ventus Sports K104's (I got a set of 4 balanced with 4 wheel alignment for $1016.00 at JAX tyres Kensington.) are great, put them thru the mill on trip back to Brisbane, dry weather / drizzly and bucketing down with big pools on road. (4 in car plus bunch of luggage)

Excellent grip and soooo much quieter.

It is only the SP3000s that have the problem. It has been around for quite some time. All those with SP9000s are safe.

Yeah I went to get mine replaced at my mates tyre store and found severe cracking in the sidewalls of all 4 tyres!!!

I got a set of Firestone Firehawk SZ50's for $165 a tyre. These tyres are AWESOME for the price. They will out perform a G Grid 3 and the dunnies(which are twice the price) in the dry and in the wet. They're a cool looking tyre to!! And they have a little rubber lip that sticks out wider than the rim to protect it.
